Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School Mathematics Course Code: Course Name: Level: MAP4C Foundations for College Mathematics Grade 12 College Course Overview This course enables students to broaden their understanding of real-world applications of mathematics. Students will analyse data using statistical methods; solve problems involving applications of geometry and trigonometry; solve financial problems connected with annuities, budgets, and renting or owning accommodation; simplify expressions; and solve equations. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems. This course prepares students for college programs in areas such as business, health sciences, and human services, and for certain skilled trades. Units of Study Unit 1 Working With Data Unit 2 Two-Variable Data Analysis Unit 3 Exponentials Unit 4 Personal Finance Unit 5 Geometry Unit 6 Trigonometry Unit 7 Summative Task Assessment and Evaluation The mark for the course will be based upon on-going or term work (70%) and a final assessment (30%) that includes a final exam (20%) and a culminating performance task (10%). The on-going or term work may include written assignments, reports, unit tests, and quizzes. Within the two areas, term work and final assessment, marks will be assigned using the four categories specified in the Ontario Curriculum Grades 9 to 12 Mathematics Education. The student is to be in the class when the bell rings, prepared to work with all required materials, including a calculator. The student is to keep a complete and organized notebook with dividers to separate units. Students are responsible for catching up on missed work and obtaining any notes/handouts.
