Welcome back from Spring Break! There is a lot going on from
now until the end of the school year. Please be sure to read
your Blast each week and check the Bassett calendar (updated
every week) for date information.
Cleveland Indians Spirit Day - April 4
Monday, April 4:

On Monday, April 4 our student council is sponsoring a Cleveland
Indians spirit day in celebration of the Cleveland Indians Home

Artist in Residence - April 4-8
This week is our Artist in Residence program at Bassett! We are
excited to welcome Yoga by The Hive Embodiment Education to
our physical education classes! Melissa Lopez, owner and principal
instructor, will lead students through various poses, stretches and
breathing techniques for increased body awareness, flexibility and
stress relief.

Spring Gifted Referral Period
April 4-20
Twice a year, in the fall and spring, school districts are responsible
for identifying gifted learners in grades K-12 using criteria set forth
by the Ohio Department of Education. The spring referral period is

Elephant & Piggie Play - April 8
Our kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will attend a
performance of Elephant & Piggie's "We are in a Play!" in the
Bassett Gymnasium on Friday, April 8 at 1:00 pm. "We are in a
Play!" is based on the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems. The
play will be performed by Brecksville Theater on the Square. Thank
you to our PTA for sponsoring this special event!
3rd & 4th Grade Testing
State testing for 3rd and 4th grade students begins the week of
April 11. A letter providing information about testing was sent home
and you can download it here. If you have questions, please
contact your child's teacher.
Totally Awesome Tuesday - April 12
Our next Totally Awesome Tuesday is April 12. We will recognize
students for exceptional effort in being BALANCED and showing
COMMITMENT during March. Please remind your child to wear the
Totally Awesome Tuesday t-shirt, Bassett or Westlake spirit wear,
or anything green on Tuesday, April 12.

toys or books for our service project in May! Bassett's student
council voted to collect items to donate to a PreK-8 school in need
in Cleveland. Set aside any donations you may have and watch for

Restore and Relax PTA Yoga Event
Friday, April 15, 7:00 pm, Bassett Gymnasium
Join us for a restorative yoga experience that focuses on
slowing it down, softening the edges and calming the mind
through gentle movements, attention to breath and
moments of stillness and quiet. The fee is $15 at the door
(you may donate more if you wish).
I am looking forward to this event! The world is a hectic place. I
believe this will prove to be a peaceful, rejuvenating and inspiring
event to all who attend. I truly hope to see you all there!

1st grade's performance of "Seussical the Musical Jr." was
recorded by Westlake High School's WHBS TV station. DVDs are
available for purchase for $10 each. The order form is here. Orders
are due by Friday, April 15. Please make checks payable to Bassett

available here. The Young Authors' Celebration is Wednesday,

3rd Grade Music Program
Our 3rd grade students will perform "Schoolhouse Rock Jr." on
Thursday, April 28 at 1:15 pm in the Bassett Gymnasium. If you are
unable to attend at 1:15 pm, you are welcome to come at 9:00 am
when students perform the program for the school. If you have any
questions, please contact our music teacher, Mrs. Schillinger

is Friday, April 8 & Saturday, April 9 at 7:00 pm at
the Westlake Schools Performing Arts

throughout the district performing a variety of acts, showcasing
many talents!

Dover Elementary PTA is hosting its 1st Annual Westlake Local
Business and Vendor Fair on Saturday, April 9, 9:00 am-1:00 pm at
Westlake High School. Come out and shop to support local
business and Dover Elementary. There will be many fantastic raffle
prizes! Admission is $5; children 10 and under are free. The flyer

Day - April 10
Westlake High School Museum Ambassadors present: "Celebration
Tres Matisse" at the Cleveland Museum of Art Community Day on
Sunday, April 10, 1:00-4:00 pm. Families are invited to become part
of the art! Travel back in time to a celebration of flowers in Nice!
