ANNUAL REPORT 2010 – 2011
The Faculty Senate’s Intellectual Property Committee for 2010 – 2011 was composed of:

1. Faculty Review Requests.
No items for review came before the Intellectual Property
Committee during the 2010 – 11 academic year.
2. IP Expert List. The Committee has created and intends to maintain a list of faculty members
with relevant expertise who are willing to serve as a resource for patent clearances.
3. Copyright CTE. At the behest of the Committee, Chair Karen Lear Edwards prepared and
presented (October 6, 2010) a training session entitled “Copyrights: Faculty Rights &
Responsibilities,” which is recorded and available online for all faculty through the Center for
Teaching Excellence.
4. Draft Revised Intellectual Property Policy ACAF 1.33. On March 10, 2011, a sub-committee
consisting of Chair Karen Lear Edwards (HRSM), First-Past Chair David Lehmann (Law
Library), Committee Member Elizabeth Sudduth (Thomas Cooper), and Staff member Chad
Hardaway (IP Office) prepared a final draft and met with Pam Benicewicz for input before
forwarding the daft policy to the Provost’s Office for comment. This draft includes a more
expansive, definitive Copyright Policy than the current version, and also provides a FAQ
attachment. The draft is presently under review by the Provost’s Office. Thereafter, it will be
presented to the Faculty Senate for action.
5. New Chair. The Committee met electronically on May 20, 2011 and elected Kenneth Campbell
as the new Intellectual Property Committee Chair for the 2011 – 2012 academic year.
6. Incoming Members. Newly elected members for the coming year include: Richard Long
(College of Arts & Sciences) and Esmaiel Jabbari (College of Engineering & Computing) to
replace seats held by outgoing members Scott Crittenden and Karen Lear Edwards.
