WHS SPANISH STUDENTS ATTAIN NATIONAL
RECOGNITION ON NATIONAL SPANISH EXAMS
Twenty-four Spanish 2 Honors students at Westlake High School attained national
recognition for excellent performance on the 2015 National Spanish
Examinations.
Of Spanish teacher Eneida Ruiz’s 48 students who took the Spanish 2 level exam,
24 scored in the 90th percentile. Students earned a total of 13 gold (95% to
100%), 21 silver (85% to 94%) and 10 bronze (75% to 84%) medals, along with four
honorable mentions (50% to 74%).
Attaining a medal for any student is a prestigious honor because the exams are
the largest of their kind in the United States. More than 157,000 students
participated in 2015.
The National Spanish Exams are administered each year in grades six through 12
and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and
Portuguese.
