Time Race begins around 10:30 a.m. and will continue until all cars
have raced and a winner is announced
Event The U.S. Department of Energy's Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) Program
Description is a classroom-based, hands-on educational STEM activity for 6th,
7th, and 8th grade students. JSS student teams apply math,
science, and creativity to design, construct, and test model solarpowered cars and then race them on a 20-meter track. This will
be the first time in known Ohio history that multiple schools have
gathered to compete
University of Akron students will also be giving these middle
school students a tour of the Engineering facilities. Engineers
from First Solar will also be on hand to help with timing and
judging.
The students with the fastest solar car will take home trophies
and the teacher from that school’s team will take home a
‘traveling’ trophy. Whoever wins next year, will then proudly
display it in their building. Who knows? Maybe 25 years from
now there will be 50 schools involved!

Directions - from the North:




Take I-77 South to Exit 22B (Grant
St./Wolf Ledges Parkway)
At the top of the exit ramp, turn left
onto Wolf Ledges Parkway
Travel approximately 1 mile where
WLP goes under a bridge and makes a
sharp right turn.
Continue straight at this point on
Carroll Street. The race/parking is
immediately on your left.
