One way to prepare for meaningful discussions and sharing is to take notes. All About Sharks is a reference book because it includes true facts about the topic. Today we’re going to learn to take notes about two or three new and surprising facts that we would like to share in a discussion with a group or a partner. We can use sticky notes and place them on the One way to find interesting information is to ask ourselves what we would like to know before we start reading and then write our questions on sticky notes. Read through the second spread that ends”…most familiar species” Grade 2 Lesson 7 Another strategy for note taking is to stop and jot a fact when you read one that is surprising or interesting. Open the page with the heading “Parts of a Typical Shark.” This says sharks don’t have bones. I think that’s interesting. They are made of cartilage, like our noses. I want to discuss that with a group, so I’m going to write that on a sticky note and place it on this page. By taking notes, I am better able to remember important facts, keep track of where they are in the book, and talk about them with other readers.
