Prayer for Easter
Heavenly Father, Thank
You for sacrificing what
was most precious to You
in order to make it possible for me
to know You. Give me eyes to see
past the temporal
and into the eternal. Remind me to
measure everyone
by the standard You set at Calvary
and by the certainty of eternity. You
have shown the way.
I pray for wisdom and courage to
follow.
Amen

MATH HOMEWORK HELP PILOT
PROJECT
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District
School Board is pleased to announce that
once again it will be participating in the
Math Homework Help pilot project. This
is the third year that the students in our Board will have access to
live, interactive online math help through the expansion of a pilot
project funded by the Ministry of Education. Homework Help is free,
real-time math tutoring by certified Ontario teachers. The project’s
goal remains to provide students in grades 7 to 10 with an after-hours
online support in Mathematics.
Students can log in from Sunday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
for 20 hours a week of individualized confidential math tutoring.
There are discussion rooms for each grade where students can join in
and see what questions other students are asking, watch the tutors
draw on the whiteboard, and ask their own question for on-the-spot
help. If they can't wait until the discussion rooms open, videos of best
tutorials and commonly asked questions are available anytime. Other
online math resources include math games and a virtual locker, where
students can save their work. To register for the site, visit the website
www.ontario.ca/homeworkhelp. Scroll down and you will find the
link to the Homework Help Line. Students will need their OEN
number to register.
All students in Grades 7 and 8 received a half day inservice from our
Board’s Program Dept. to teacher them how to register and use the
website. For more info. Talk to your Child!!!!!!!
CRIMINAL REFERENCE CHECKS
Effective September 2013, all individuals will require a Criminal
Reference Check for volunteering for any school activity. This will
include all trips, skating days, in class volunteering, etc. To reduce
the stress on getting all the correct forms before September, you are
welcome to come by the school anytime to get the correct forms. The
Peel Regional Police does not charge for volunteer activities, but it
may take up to six weeks for the Check to be completed.
School Website
Our school website is continually
updated and has information for parents
regarding school calendar information,
newsletters, School Council minutes and
school updates. Visit
www.dpcdsb.org/vpaul and link onto the
elementary site at St. Vincent de Paul
School. A continued special thank you to
Ms. Ricardo for overseeing this site.
MINIMIZING CLASS DISRUPTIONS : Contacting Parents
We appreciate continued parental help and support
in minimizing disruptions to classes, whenever
possible. By trying our best not to disturb classes,
except in very important situations, we are
reducing disruptions to quality teaching and learning time. We
understand that there will be times when disruptions will be
necessary and unavoidable. To this end, we ask the following;
we ask that you set up an appointment with the teacher.
Approaching the teacher just before the bell or during school
time makes it difficult for the teacher to focus on her/his
students. This also becomes a safety issue. Please leave a
message and the teacher will call you back within 24 hours.
to your child’s teacher when your
child needs to be picked up early, then meet them in the office
and sign them out.
and the teacher’s names on the lunch bags and leave them on
the lunch table in the front hall. Please ensure that the Lunch is
there by 12:00pm.
Kiss N Ride …
Of paramount importance at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School is
your child’s safety. It is important that all traffic follow a few simple
rules, which will help alleviate any difficulties in the school
driveway.
All parents should use the Kiss N Ride lane if they are dropping
off their child
No parents should leave their cars parked in front of the school
unless it is in a designated parking spot
No vehicle should be left parked in the Kiss ‘N’ Ride lane
No double parking in the driveway is acceptable
Under NO circumstances should vehicles be backing up or going
the wrong way
Extra-Curricular Activities and Excursions.
Students have opportunities to take field trips
and participate in a number of extra-curricular
activities. Permission forms will be sent home to
be filled out, signed and promptly returned to
school.
NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE ON
A TRIP OR EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY WITHOUT
WRITTEN CONSENT FROM THEIR PARENT/GUARDIAN.
VERBAL CONSENT OVER THE TELEPHONE WILL NOT
BE ACCEPTED.
No exceptions will be allowed. Teachers give ample notice for trip
consent forms. We encourage parents to support these educational
opportunities by volunteering to assist and supervise these
excursions. For the safety of your child, excursions lacking
appropriate adult supervision will be cancelled.
Are you Planning to Move ?
We are in the process of planning staffing
and organizing classes for the 2013-2014
school year. If you are planning on
moving out of the St. Vincent de Paul
area, please call the office to make
arrangements for a student transfer form to be prepared and
sent home. The transfer form will serve as an introduction to
your new school and will enable the school to request
student records from us. If your children are remaining at St.
Vincent de Paul School, but you are simply changing address
or babysitter information, please also call the office with up to
date information.

transportation or additional supervision for students admitted under
this procedure.

annually, no later than the end of April.
iii) The student admitted under this procedure does not automatically
become eligible for the secondary school serving this school. If it is

for Flexible Boundary consideration will have to be made to the
secondary school principal at the appropriate time.
iv) At the present time, NO flexible boundary students will be

Healthy Foods Update
We will continue to educate our students on the
benefits of healthy eating and daily exercise.
Good food, daily physical activity and a healthy
environment that supports learning and
growth are vital to helping students reach their full
potential. Together, we are working towards challenging ourselves to
make our schools a healthier place for students to learn and grow.
Research indicates that parents have the primary responsibility for
shaping their child/ren's attitudes and behaviours about physical
activity and healthy living. You can model and encourage healthy
behaviours at home by being role models and leading an active and
healthy lifestyle.
Healthy Tips for parents:

Talk about healthy schools activities with your
child/ren

Support and be actively involved with the healthy
schools activities at your child/ren'sschool

Participate in healthy activities at home as a
family.
In our continued quest to be a healthy school and meet our goal of
teaching our students how to live a healthy lifestyle, we appreciate
your continued parental support as we move forward to model
healthy eating at St. Vincent de Paul. In light of that, we firmly
believe that we have to work together to instill responsibility decision
making when it comes to our daily diet. As such, we are asking
parents to pack only healthy, nutritious snacks and lunches for their
child/ren. Kindly avoid dropping off fast food at the school – instead,
please take the time to pack healthy lunches or take your child out for
lunch as a treat on those special occasions.
Warm Weather Dress Code and Sun Protection
With warm weather arriving
(occasionally )it is important to review the
dress code and appropriate dress for the
school day. At all times clothing should
be comfortable, tasteful and appropriate
to our Catholic school environment. Here
are the guidelines:
Specifically not allowed are: bandanas, string tops, tube tops,
halter tops or anything that exposes a bare midriff and/or
undergarments, skin tight clothing, spandex shorts or pants,
sheer materials, cut-off shorts, torn or ragged clothing and
pants that sag below the waist. Protective measures such as
hats and sunglasses are strongly encouraged for protection
against harmful UV rays. Bottled water is allowed in the
classrooms only not outside in the school yard.
Students who come to school in unacceptable attire will
be asked to phone their parents to arrange for a change
of clothing to be brought to the school. Your cooperation
is appreciated in the event that we need to contact you.
Thanking you in advance for helping your child(ren) make
appropriate clothing choices.
CATHOLIC RATEPAYERS
If you are a Catholic rate payer, we urge you to check your
property tax bill to ensure your support is directed to your local
Catholic School Board, in our case the Dufferin Peel Catholic
District School Board. If you are a tenant, you can verify your
support by contacting our Admissions Dept. at 905- 890-0108
ext. 24511 or 24519. By ensuring that you are a Catholic
School supporter, you can help deliver a powerful message to
the government about the level of support for publically funded
Catholic Education in Ontario., In order to vote for your local
Catholic School Boards Trustee, you must register as a
separate school support.
INTERNET SAFETY
We are asking that all parents to be
aware of what their children are doing on
the internet and sure their sons’ or
daughters’ activities on the internet are
completely appropriate. It would be
helpful to know your son’s or daughter
email addresses, log on names and passwords. Make regular
checks, look at the computer screen and make sure the
computer is set up in an area that is frequently supervised by
an adult.
Emergency Evacuation
In the unfortunate event that we have an emergency
evacuation at the school, we will evacuate to : John Cabot
Secondary School. Our alternate exit is: Westminster United
Church located at 4094 Tomken Road.
Safe Play
All students are strictly reminded of our “Hands
Off Policy” (HOP) when it comes to games
being played at recess. This safety
expectation is especially important on days
where the field is out of bounds. When the
play area is limited to the pavement, we ask
that children only play with tennis balls or with
small utility balls. Footballs are only allowed on the field. We
applaud those who play appropriately and safely. SAFE
PLAY IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS.
Graduation Volunteers
Our Grade Eight Graduation

in helping to prepare and
organize this important

Mr. Trias if you are able to
help us make this a memorable event for our
graduating students. The children will have their
traditional off-site luncheon and dance during the day
on Wednesday June 19, 2013.
