strategies that help their children diagnosed with ASD learn and grow.
Reinforcement 101- Thursday, April 4th, 2013
Reinforcement is a key principle of Applied Behaviour Analysis. In positive reinforcement, a reward is given for the desired
behaviour. In negative reinforcement, something undesirable is taken away as a consequence for the desired behaviour. You
will learn to distinguish between negative and positive reinforcement, identify possible reinforcers for your child and how to fade
the reinforcers.
Do You See What I See?- Thursday, April 18th, 2013
Focused on five visual supports for individuals with ASD: Visual Schedules, First Then Board, Token Board, Checklists and
Independent Activity Schedule. A make & take session will follow the presentation where participants will develop visual
supports that are individualized to their child’s needs.

help you and your child sleep better.
Steps Toward Positive Change- Thursday, May 16th, 2013
Once you have a good idea of why your child demonstrates certain behaviours, you may wonder what to do next. We will
review what happens before the behaviour occurs, what to do after the behaviour occurs and talk about setting goals to change
behaviour. For ex-ample, your child may be kicking or pinching to get something from you and you would like to teach a more
appropriate way of getting it. Strategies to teach replacement behaviours will be discussed.
Teaching Social Communication To Young Children- Thursday, May 30th, 2013
Social communication includes the ability to introduce, extend and maintain topics, request clarification if needed, and respond
to peers. Children have to learn to read and interpret social cues and contexts and respond appropriately. This workshop will
focus on strategies to teach conversational skills to young children.
Teaching Recreation and Leisure Skills To Your Child- Thursday, June 13th, 2013
The focus of this workshop is to provide caregivers with the knowledge and skills required to make community involvement fun
and relevant for your child. Research shows that increasing community participation and quality of life for your child as well as
your family can set your child up for inclusion in community events.
From Learning To Play To Playing To Learn- Thursday, June 27th, 2013
Toys, in addition to being fun, are tools that help children learn about themselves and the worlds around them. This workshop is
aimed at providing information and tools to parents to facilitate social and communication skills for their children, while they are
playing with toys. This workshop would be beneficial for parents who have young children at the early stages of playing
functionally with toys. It would be ideal if the parents have already attended workshops on reinforcement, and facilitating
communication and social skills for their children. This is a two part workshop. Parents will be invited back after implementing
the strategies at home to have a consultation opportunity with the presenters two weeks after the presentation date.
