Sessions developed for parents and family members to assist in empowering families to learn new strategies that help their children diagnosed with ASD learn and grow. Introduction to ASD- Saturday, April 13th, 9:30-11:30am Learn about specific ABA tools, such as reinforcement, task analysis and generalization strategies Introduction to ABA- Saturday, April 13th, 12:30-2:30pm Learn about ABA as it is applied to ASD and be introduced to strategies including defining behaviours, reinforcement, task analysis and prompting Developing Communication Skills- Saturday, April 27th, 9:30-11:30am Basic communication skills, focusing on forms of communication, functions of communication and strategies to enhance communication Understanding Behaviour- Saturday, April 27th, 12:30-2:30pm Learn how to apply the Antecedent-Behaviour-Consequence (A-B-C) Model, looking at the different functions of behav-iour and general teaching strategies Play And Social Skills- Saturday, May 11th, 9:30-11:30am Strategies to create opportunities for teaching in the natural environment, such as the home and community Adaptive Living Skills- Saturday, May 11th, 12:30-2:30pm Strategies of ABA including prompting, chaining, and shaping to teach skills such as dressing and personal hygiene Ready, Set, Go To School- Saturday, May 25th, 9:30-11:30 Strategies for transitioning a child with ASD into the school environment such as: visual and material supports, school visits, and planning routines will be discussed. Resources to prepare for the school year will be included.
