O God of new beginnings and wonderful surprises,
thank you for the gift of a new year.
May it be a time of grace, a time to grow in faith and love,
a time to renew our commitment to following Your Son, Jesus.
May it be a year of blessings, a time to cherish family and friends,
a time to renew efforts at school and work,
a time to embrace our faith more fully.
Walk with us, please, in every day and every hour in this new year of 2015
that the light of Christ might shine through us,
in spite of weaknesses and challenges.
May we remember this year that we are always on a sacred path,
exploring paths of joy to be closer to You.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Welcome back! I hope that you and
your family enjoyed the blessings of
peace, joy, and love during the
Christmas season. On behalf of the
staff, I would like to wish everyone a
Happy New Year and to also sincerely
thank everyone in the St. Timothy
community for their kindness and
generosity in contributing to our
Giving Tree campaign to assist
families in need. The true meaning of
Christmas shined brightly in our
school through your giving hearts.
Throughout the year, we continue to
remember all those in need in our
prayers.
As 2015 begins, we all look forward to
new challenges and opportunities
with
great
anticipation
and
excitement as our students and staff
will continue to work, learn, and grow
in striving towards the important
goals for the remainder of the year.
We will also see the many other great
facets of student life continuing with
our skating program, various sports
teams including our basketball and
hockey teams, our winter clubs,
intramurals and preparation for our
Willy Wonka musical production.
We extend a warm welcome to new
families who have recently joined us
and we wish our new students great
success while attending St. Timothy.
Our school enrollment currently sits
at 579. A reminder to all parents to
please join us at our St. Timothy Feast
Day mass on January 26th as well as at
our Catholic School Council meeting
on February 4th.
Sincerely, K. Kovacs

In the month of JANUARY,
as we begin a New Year,
WE FOCUS ON THE VIRTUE OF SELF-CONTROL
God has blessed us with the ability to make choices.
We are able to control how we react to what happens
around us. We may at times react to a situation that is
hurtful or disrespectful, and we know that through
prayer, reflection, and concentration, we can become
better at demonstrating self-control.
A person with SELF-CONTROL
 is patient
 knows how to wait his/her turn
 can calm him/herself down and think before
reacting to situations
 can think things through and do what is best for
everyone

COMMUNICATION
Communication (i.e. newsletter, letters, memos, notices,
etc.) to parents is being sent via our school e-mail account,
which is only for outgoing messages. Communication via
e-mail is being sent to parents who have provided us with
their e-mail addresses and have completed Canada’s AntiSpam Legislation (CASL) Consent Form. Hard copies of
these communication items are available in the office, and
will be sent home with students whose parents have not
provided us with an e-mail address and consent form.
Our efforts to reduce the amount of paper and printing
are part of our ECO Schools initiatives in going green.
We remind parents to please notify the office if they do
not wish to received communication electronically or if
their e-mail address has changed.
Open communication between home and school is
important and essential to the well-being and
achievement of your children and our students. Although
we will be reporting to you formally during the school
year, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if
you have questions or concerns. A phone call on the onset
of a concern usually provides resolution before it becomes
a problem. On our part, if we have any concerns about
your child, we will also contact you at the earliest
opportunity.

NEW CONCUSSION GUIDELINES
Concussions are serious brain injuries. Ensuring that all
students receiving a hit/bump to the head, at school,
receive the care and treatment required, all schools of
the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board have
procedures in place. It has always been a standard
procedure for a parent to be notified, when a child
receives a hit/bump to the head. Please find a pamphlet
attached that outlines important information about
concussions, as well as treatment guidelines. The new
guidelines include a 10-phase process for supporting a
student’s Return to Activity. Working in partnership
with parents, the school administration and school
psychology staff will monitor a child’s progress through
the 10 phases. For further information, feel free to
contact the school.
E.Q.A.O. DATES
The provincial Education Quality and Accountability
Office (EQAO) has designated the dates for the Primary
and Junior Divisions Assessments of Reading, Writing,
and Mathematics. We request that parents of Grades 3
and 6 students refrain from booking vacations or other
appointments that would result in their child(ren) being
away from school during the period of May 25 to June 5,
2015. More specific dates, times, and information for
our school will follow in the coming months.

JANUARY 2015
St. Timothy, whose name our school
bears, was a co-worker of St. Paul in
spreading the Gospel to the Gentile
world. As he is described in Paul’s
letters, Timothy was young and
timid by nature. He was born in
Lystra, Asia Minor. His father was
Greek and his mother, Eunice, was a
devout Jew who instilled in her son
a warm, vibrant faith nourished in
the scriptures.
Paul converted Timothy to Christianity about the year 47.
Paul had deep affection for the young man and
encouraged him to be steadfast in his ministry. Timothy
was with Paul on many of his journeys and became his
close friend and companion. Tradition reports that
Timothy was martyred under Emperor Nerva in AD 97.
We celebrate the Feast Day of St. Timothy on January 26
each year. As a community rooted in faith, we would like
to extend a warm invitation to all parents/guardians to
join us in prayer and the celebration of the Eucharist
during mass in our gym on January 26th at 9:30 AM.
“The Spirit God has given us is no cowardly spirit,
but one that makes us strong, loving and wise.”
(2 Timothy 1:7)
WINTER REMINDERS
During the winter season, the school receives a number
of calls from concerned parents as to how we determine
when children will or will not be allowed outside for
recess. As per Dufferin‐Peel CDSB Policy, when the
temperature or equivalent with the wind chill factor
reaches ‐25°C, students shall be kept indoors. When
the temperature is -20°C or colder, the amount of time
outdoors may be reduced. Please ensure your child has
indoor shoes and appropriate outdoor winter clothing.
Reminder that students should stay off snow banks and
ice patches, and that snow stays on the ground!

INTERMEDIATE HOCKEY TEAM
We did it again, Timothy Titans! We won another gold
for the school! With a lot of team effort and heart, the
Intermediate Hockey Team played well and defeated
many other skilled teams in the round robin, but it all
came down to the finals. After a close game against All
Saints, we were matched up against St. Barbara in the
final round. The Titans played solid offence and defense
as we came back from a 2 - 0 deficit. Our goalie, Liam S.,
stood strong to keep us in the game, as we were able to
come from behind with two amazing goals from
Brayden H. It all came down to final minute of the
game as St. Barbara was coming on strong with 6
players on the ice. Magnificently, the boys and girls all
came in clutch, playing amazing defense which led to an
empty netter scored by John N. to seal the deal! The
team members certainly do not take all of the credit, as
we all would like to extend a special thank you to our
amazing coaches, Mr. Riopel and Mr. Allen for teaching
us how to play like a team and their encouragement led
us to improve and develop as the games went on. Now
only one thing left to say … GO, TITANS, GOLD!
Congratulations to all the team members and coaches!
