PRAYER FOR MOTHERS
Creator of All, we thank you for mothers to whom You have entrusted
the care of every precious human life from its very beginning in the womb.
To mothers, You have given the capacity of participating with You in the creation of new
life, and the privilege and responsibility of being a child's first teacher and spiritual guide.
Grant that all mothers may worthily foster the faith of their children, following the
example of Mary, Blessed Mother of our Lord, and other holy women who follow Christ.
May Your Holy Spirit constantly inspire and guide them.
May all mothers receive Your Grace abundantly so that they may come to understand
the full meaning of these blessings. Strengthen all mothers with an unlimited capacity
for selfless love for her children and for all Your children, recognizing the true dignity
of every human being created in Your image and likeness.
We ask this through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
+ AMEN.
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
“See, the former things have come to pass, and
new things I now declare; before they spring
forth, I tell you of them.” ~ Isaiah 42:9
The bursting forth of Spring invites us to
contemplate and ‘soak’ in God’s love
for us – in Jesus and in Creation. There
is an energy of new growth and new
hope as we continue to live in the light
of the Easter Season until Pentecost.
April brought showers of blessings to
our school with our Holy Week Stations
of the Cross, Earth Week activities,
French Café, and Used Book Sale to
name a few. Our students participated
in the Diversity Conference and
represented the school at the Skills
Competition and Sir John. A. Macdonald
Contest for the first time.
Catholic Education Week will start off
the month of May, as we look forward
to the blossoms of the Sacraments with
our Grade 2 students celebrating First
Communion and our Grade 8 students
receiving Confirmation. Grades 3 and 6
students continue to prepare for EQAO.
The Willy Wonka Jr. musical production
is another highlight for this month as
we actively begin to prepare for the
upcoming academic year’s school
organization. Students will continue to
enjoy experiences of prayer with our
Crowning of Mary, as well as class trips,
sporting events, and many more
activities that make St. Timothy School
a great place to learn, play, and grow.
May is dedicated to Mary, Mother of
God, and we invite you to pray the
rosary as a family. We extend our best
wishes to all mothers in our community
as you celebrate Mother’s Day.
We are quickly approaching the end of
the 2014-2015 school year. Let us
continue working together to make
certain the students finish the year
strong. We need the students at school
each and every day on time,
participating safely and actively as they
focus on the goals needed to achieve
their fullest potential in these final eight
weeks of the school year. Cooperate.
Educate. Celebrate.
Sincerely, K. Kovacs

WE FOCUS ON THE VIRTUE OF ACCEPTANCE
DATES TO REMEMBER
God wants us to make friends with everyone, no matter
how different they may look or act. Acceptance is the
ability to respect the dignity and rights of all persons, even
those whose beliefs and behaviours differ from our own.
Everyone should strive to love and respect their
neighbour, as they love and respect themselves.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL
Communication between home and school is greatly
enhanced by parental involvement with the Catholic
School Council. All Council Members and parents/
guardians are encouraged to come out to meetings and
participate. Our final School Council meeting for this year
will be held on Wednesday, May 20th at 7:00 PM in the
school library. At this final meeting, we will be working
on our by-laws and planning for next year. As always, all
parents are welcome!
If you would like more information,
please contact Linda Kostick , our
Catholic School Council Chair.
Please note that the scheduled
Family Movie Night on April 17th was cancelled.
TO KINDERGARTEN
All new Kindergarten students registered for September
2015 are invited to attend an information evening and
workshop with their parents on Thursday, May 7th at
6:30 PM. Each child will received a Welcome to
Kindergarten bag of activities and materials to help them
prepare for starting school. The resources are provided
by the Learning Partnership™.
MOVING / NEW REGISTRATIONS
If you are moving from our area and will not be attending
St. Timothy in September 2015, or you have a change of
address or contact information, please inform the Office
as soon as possible.
In addition, if you know of families who will be registering
their children to attend St. Timothy School in September
2015, please encourage them to register them as soon as
possible. Our class organization and school staffing for
September relies on accurate enrolment projections.
CRIMINAL REFERENCE CHECKS (CRC)
As per Board policy, all school volunteers, including
parents/guardians, are required to have a completed
Criminal Reference Check (CRC) completed through Peel
Police in order to attend a school trip as a volunteer.
There is no charge for a CRC when you are a volunteer.
Please allow up to 8 weeks to process the CRC.
St. Timothy School Newsletter
SACRAMENTAL DATES
The Grade 2 students have completed their Sacramental
Preparation classes and will receive their First Holy
Communion on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
The Grade 8 students who are participating in the
Sacramental preparation classes at the church will celebrate
their Confirmation on Tuesday, May 26th, 2015 at 7:00 PM at
St. Catherine of Siena.
CONFIRMATION CHANGE 2015-2016
Under Code 891 of the Church’s Code of Canon Law,
Confirmation is to be administered at the age of discretion
unless the Bishops’ Conference has decided on a different
age. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB)
has decreed that, in our rite, the sacrament of Confirmation
shall be conferred at an age determined by the diocese. The
Archdiocese of Toronto has notified parishes that
Confirmation for elementary school students will be moved
from Grade 8 to Grade 7, effective September 2015. NOTE:
This year’s Grade 7 students will still be confirmed when
they are in Grade 8 next year. This year’s Grade 6 students
will also be confirmed in their Grade 7 year. Please contact
St. Catherine of Siena Parish for more detailed information.
DID YOU KNOW … ?
DISPELLING MYTHS
MYTH: Catholic schools are the same as public schools,
except with religion.
REALITY: While both Catholic and public schools teach a
curriculum mandated by the Ministry of Education, our
schools are in view with the Catholic perspective; a lens, if
you will, through which all curriculum and action is viewed.
The curriculum is enhanced by the gospel values in the
school, working together with home and parish to ensure
that our students are formed in the traditions of Catholic
faith through spiritual, academic and social development.

SKILLS CANADA COMPETITION:
JUNIOR / INTERMEDIATE LEGO TEAMS
On Wednesday April 8th, St. Timothy competed for the first
time at the Skills Canada Competition at St. Bernadette
school.
The Skills Competition offers awareness in
Technological Education, and provides experiential
learning opportunities to explore careers in various trade
sectors. Showcasing their God-given gifts and talents, using
Lego from specialized kits, the Junior and Intermediate
Lego Mechanics teams had to work collaboratively to
design, construct, create and present a Lego product to
solve the challenge.
A big congratulations goes out to Junior Team members:
Marcel B., Katerina P., Melissa L. and Daniel V. who did a
phenomenal job creating a rescue vehicle. Our
Intermediate Team, consisting of Joseph J., Sonja P., Daniel
G., and Robert M, was responsible for designing a waste
management vehicle and placed third overall! Way to go,
Titans! We look forward to entering the Skills Canada
competition again next year!
DIVERSITY CONFERENCE FOR STUDENTS
On April 23rd, St. Timothy’s Faith Ambassadors, (ten
students from Grades 6-8), were accompanied by Ms.
Battista to attend the annual Mississauga East Diversity
Conference held at Philip Pocock Secondary School. Upon
their arrival, along with various other schools from the
Family, the students arranged a booth showcasing how
diverse St. Timothy School is by exhibiting the many clubs
and fundraisers that we offer. They also had a chance to
visit and ask questions about the booths of other schools.
The students then had lunch during which they enjoyed
special performances from SUPERFIRE, a rock and roll
music therapy group, and guest speaker, The Real Sun,
who shared their extraordinary talents and beautiful life
experiences. Each had truly inspiring stories for everyone
in the audience. When the conference
ended, it was evident that the students
enjoyed this great experience!

SIR JOHN A. MACDONALD CONTEST
On the road to the 150th anniversary of
Confederation in 2017, we will mark a broad
range of significant anniversaries and
accomplishments that have made Canada
the strong, proud and free country it is
today. In 2015, we celebrate the 200th
anniversary of the birth of our first Prime Minister and
Father of Confederation, Sir John A. Macdonald. Prime
Minister, Stephen Harper said, “Without Sir. John A.
Macdonald, Canada as we know it — the best country in
the world — simply would not exist.”
In honour of our founding Father of Confederation, on
April 14th and 15th, two students from our school attended
the Sir John A. MacDonald Multimedia Contest at St.
Patrick’s Church for our Family of Schools. Representing
our school were Allyssa D. in Grade 8 for Spoken Word
category and Kaitlyn C. in Grade 5 for the Speech category.
“It was a new and thrilling experience for both of us. We
were happy to take part in this competition. We learned a
lot about John A. Macdonald after doing all the research.
We will always remember this great learning experience.”

JUNIOR HOCKEY TEAM
Congratulations to the Junior Hockey Team for two
excellent showings in tournaments last month. First, the
team participated in the Brampton Beasts tournament
which was for Intermediate students (Grades 7 and 8). Our
Junior team showed great courage as they competed
against players two to four years older than
them. Although they came up short, they made the final
round of play in their tier. The following week, they
competed in the St. Timothy Junior Tournament, and
placed FIRST, never losing a game! Another winning
banner to add to those hanging in our gym.
Congratulations on a great year and thanks to the
following players: Shane A. (6), Francesco A. (6),
Marco A. (6), Daniel D. (5), Natalia D. (6), Joseph D.
(5), Louis M.(5), Luc M. (6), Jack L. (5), Mark P. (6),
Liam S. (5), Quinn T. (6), Olivia V. (5), Luca V. (5),
and Daniel W. (5). Thank you to Mr. Riopel and Mr.
Allen for their coaching and dedication as they
developed this team. Way to “gold,” Titans!

WONDERFUL WATER-FUL !
Congratulations to Ms. Battista’s class
for being the top class in our Water-ful
Wednesday initiative.
This Grade 2
class regularly made water their #1
beverage choice.
The Health Action Team wants to
remind parents and students that water
is a healthy, low-calorie beverage
choice. It does not contain the high
amounts of sugar that juices and pops do. As the
temperature outdoors rises, we need to remember to
drink lots of water to keep our body hydrated. Students
are encouraged to refill their reusable water bottles at
one of the water fountains. No money required. Water is
FREE! Only tap water delivers!
KILOMETRE CLUB NEWS
Congratulations to all Kilometre Club members, who have
dedicated themselves to running on Tuesday mornings
since October. Regardless of the weather, these runners
were energetic and eager, coming out to practices on a
regular basis. Ms. Harden and Ms. Zabukovec are very
proud of all of you. Your coaches are confident that those
moving up to Grade 4 next year will be a wonderful
addition to the school’s Cross-Country team. Thank you
to the grade 5 helpers, Kate and Caitlyn, for encouraging
our runners all season.
A special congratulations goes
out to the following students
for
competing
in
the
Mississauga Marathon’s 2KM
Run on Sunday, May 3rd – Arianna, Caitlyn, Daniela, Edita,
Evan, Jacob, Julia, Katie, Lauren, Mackenzie, Philip, and
Veselja. Way to go, Titan runners! We also wish Ms.
Zabukovec well as she steps into her sneakers bright and
early to run the half-marathon prior! Keep calm and run on!
SCHOOL GREENSPACES
We remind all students and parents to please avoid
stepping into or playing in and around the garden beds at
the front of the school. These have been donated,
planted and cared for by a generous volunteer, Mr.
Krampert, and we ask that you be respectful of his work
and our greenspaces.
St. Timothy School Newsletter
During the week of April 20th to 24th, St. Timothy
celebrated EARTH WEEK. Each day of the week
focused on a special theme and students were
involved in a variety of activities. A few highlights
include the G.O.O.S. (“Good On One Side”)
Notepad/Notebook Sale and our Earth Day
Liturgy which was held indoors due to
inclement weather. The Eco Team with the
help of Ms. Harden and Ms. McColgan did a
great job of bringing the outdoors indoors
to the gym to remind us of God’s beautiful
creation.
The Eco Team also distributed a tree sapling
to every student and staff member in the
school, which they hope you planted and
will nurture as it grows to remind us to be
good stewards of God’s creation.
There was quite a rivalry during the
Recycling
Challenge
as
classes
attempted to build the tallest structure
constructed using only recycled materials
and 2 metres of tape. First place
finishers for each division were: Ms. Fazzari’s class
(Primary), Ms. Chyz’s class (Junior) and after trying to
go through the ceiling tiles in their classroom, Ms.
Dzikowski’s (Intermediate) students moved their
winning structure to the gym stage! Students in these
three classes will enjoy free pizza for their “treemendous” efforts. Thank you to everyone for getting
their green on, and especially to Ms. Martins, Ms.
Jach, Ms. Fazzari, and Ms. Kontostergios.
Beginning on Earth Day on April 22nd
and continuing to April 23rd , Ms. Chyz’s
Grade 5 class sold gently used books
that had been donated from the school
community. The $491.50 in funds raised
from this event will be used to support
environmental initiatives. Thank you for your support
and for caring about our environment as we share our
love of reading and reduce our carbon footprint on
the earth. With the help of Ms. Zabukovec, all unsold
books plus many obsolete school text books were
boxed and donated to One World Schoolhouse™, an
organization that delivers them to schools in need in
the Caribbean basin. Reading is fun when shared!

FRENCH CAFÉ
th
Willy Wonka Jr. will be presented
May 13th and 14th at 7:00 PM. Order
forms for the $5 “Golden” Tickets
have been sent home. The cast and
crew are working very hard under
the direction of Ms. Hyde and the Production Team, as
they are very excited to bring this awesome musical
adventure to the St. Timothy community! We can’t wait
for this “sweet treat!”
BIBLE READ-A-THON FOR SHARELIFE
On April 1st, the Grade 5 students
participated in a Bible Read-athon. They spent the day reading Bible
passages and completing Scripture
activities with their classmates. In
order to participate in this special day,
the Grade 5’s were challenged to raise
money for ShareLife. We are proud to report that the
classes raised a total of $420.91! Congratulations to
Grade 5 students on this wonderful outreach project!
WARM WEATHER DRESS CODE
With the arrival of warm weather in the spring (finally!),
we need to review appropriate dress for the school day.
Board Policy states that all students are expected to dress
in clean, neat and practical attire. The Board and St.
Timothy School endorse and promote a student dress
code consistent with the values, traditions and
distinctiveness of Catholic schools and the common good.
Students are reminded of the expectations that are in
place regarding appropriate dress. Although sleeveless
tops with appropriate coverage are permitted, we do not
permit tank, halter, muscle or crop tops. T-shirts with
offensive/inappropriate messages or images are not
permitted. The midriff must not be visible and short
shorts and cut-offs are not to be worn. Students should
always wear appropriate footwear to ensure their safety
and beach sandals are not encouraged for this reason. We
respectfully ask parents to monitor what children are
wearing before they leave for school.
Hats and sunscreen are very much encouraged
during recess times to protect students from the
harmful rays of the sun.
On Friday April 17 , St. Timothy hosted the French Café.
All of the students enjoyed awesome and entertaining
French plays presented by the Grade 4, 5 and 6 classes
(Les trois petits cochons, Comment y Aller, Arbre Ungali
et Louis la grenouille). Delicious croissants, milk and juice
were on the menu for students, parents and teachers. In
addition, sugar pies (la tarte au sucre), a traditional
Québecois dessert, that were made in advance in the
staffroom by the Grades 5 – 8 students, were also
enjoyed. The gym was turned into a French atmosphere
with décor consisting of French-themed paintings on the
walls and clay donuts on the tables. The tablecloths also
had a French theme that were stenciled by several Grade
8 students during lunch recesses. Some comments about
the café: “The plays were fantastic.” “The food was
really good.” “I enjoyed the sugar pie. It was my first
time eating this exquisite dessert.”
“I liked the
tablecloths and decorative donuts.”
By: Joseph D., Liam S., Olivia V., Luca V. (Gr. 5 students)
Madame Krampert would like to extend a
great big “merci” to the following students
who spent many of their lunch recesses
creating the beautiful tablecloths, as well as
helping with organizing costumes and props
and many other details which contributed in
making our café such a great success:
Rebecca B., Sofia C., Linda F., Mateja F., Nubia M.,
Aneta M., Taryn R., Nicole S., and Makenna S. Madame
would also like to recognize the “serveurs” who did an
excellent job serving and cleaning up during and after
the café. Many thanks to our dedicated parent
volunteers who helped to make the food service run
smoothly. Last but not least, all the teachers who lent a
helping hand in transforming the gym into the café,
setting up sound and music, filming and helping behind
the scenes. C’est tres magnifique! Merci aussi, Madame!
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (PEDs)
As part of our efforts to promote and maintain a positive
Catholic climate in our schools, the Board adheres to a
policy regarding Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) on
school property. In this regard, all PEDs must be kept out of
sight, turned off and not used within school premises or
during school-sanctioned activities To prevent the loss or
damage of PEDs, we encourage students to leave their PEDs
at home as the school is not responsible for their safe
keeping. Effective September 2015, the Board will be
implementing revised protocol and procedures for PEDs.

CELEBRATING NEW LIFE IN FDK
FDK classes participated in a chick-hatching
project during the season of Lent and
Easter. They practiced the virtue of patience
as the chick eggs developed over a period of
21 to 23 days in an incubator. The children used texts,
collaborative discussions and technology to learn about
the difference between non-living and living things, the life
cycle of a chicken, chick habitats, the important job of the
mother hen and other oviparous species. During the week
of April 15th, sounds of peeping and delight filled the
Kindergarten hallways as the children witnessed the birth
of new life. This inspired conversations about their
personal experiences of birth and loss. Throughout this
cross-curricular experience, students demonstrated
empathy and kindness as they cared for the chicks daily:
changing their food/water, reading them books and
making sure that they stayed warm. On April 22nd, students
said goodbye to the chicks when they returned to their
home on the farm, but the lessons that the chicks taught
them will forever remain in their hearts and minds!
The provincial Education Quality and Accountability Office
(EQAO) has designated the dates for the Primary and Junior
Divisions Assessments of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
We request that parents of Grades 3 and 6 students refrain
from booking vacations or other appointments that would
result in their child(ren) being away from school during the
period of May 25 to June 5, 2015, although students in these
grades will not be writing every day of that block. Please
check with your child’s teacher if you require specific dates.
Visit www.dpcdsb.org/EQAO for Board and school profiles.
E.Q.A.O. AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING
After-school tutoring sessions for registered Grades 3 and 6
students are currently taking place on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 PM at the school and will
continue until the E.Q.A.O. assessments begin in May. If
parents would like to have their child(ren) practice additional
sample questions at home, they may visit http://
