PRAYER FOR EASTER
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Lord, Jesus Christ,
Your Resurrection has given us new Life!
Easter is the gift of HOPE and PEACE.
Easter is the gift of JOY and LOVE.
Let us rejoice in God, who gives them all.
May God bless you and your family
during this holy season of Easter and always.
May God’s love and wisdom always help
to guide you on your way.
May God’s light shine all around you
to bless you every day.
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
As Spring arrives and we conclude our
Lenten journey with Holy Week, our
community of faith continues to reflect
and renew ourselves spiritually. With the
celebration of Easter, we experience
renewed hope as we remember Jesus’
words: “I am the resurrection and the life.
Those who believe in Me, though they
may die, shall live. And whoever lives
and believes in Me, shall never
die.” (John 11: 25-26) It is through
Christ’s joyous resurrection that we are
able to have eternal life with God.
March was another busy and active
month at St. Timothy, as we recognized
the Virtue of Kindness. We concluded our
skating programs and our school Chess
Teams participated in the Mississauga
East Family of School Chess Tournament.
We experienced the joy of our Grade 2
students receiving the Sacrament of
Reconciliation at Church for the first time
and then, again, at the school Lenten
Reconciliation service. Our Health Action
Team members were busy with the Great
Big Crunch and the Great Gulp, as well as
Waterful Wednesdays.
In April, we will focus on the Virtue of
Love as we continue to foster a safe,
caring, healthy and inclusive school
community. School-wide activities this
month include: Stations of the Cross,
French Café, Family Movie Night, & our
Earth Week activities. Parents/guardians
are welcome to attend these events,
though they are reminded to register for
Family Movie Night.
Spring also signals the beginning of our
final term and allows all of our students
to challenge themselves to do their best
to improve on past results. As parents/
guardians, please continue to support
your children in their well-being, in their
faith, and in their learning. We truly
appreciate your support at the school as
we work together to help one another
and all students to learn, to improve and
grow, and to be resilient and happy.
Let us celebrate this Easter season by
remembering Jesus’ Easter message of
hope and renewal as we continue our
work together as a community of faith
and love. I pray for God’s blessing upon
our community. May the peace and joy
the risen Lord be with you! Happy Easter!
Sincerely, K. Kovacs

APRIL 2015
In the month of APRIL,
WE FOCUS ON THE VIRTUE OF LOVE
God has given us many guidelines and examples of how
to live our lives. He sent His Son, Jesus, to make one
lesson clear above all other lessons - the lesson to love.
The two greatest commandments are to love God and
to love one another. Love is not about us - it is about
putting our own needs aside and looking out for the
good of others. That’s what Jesus did - even to the
point of giving up His life for us so our sins would be
forgiven and we would have eternal life with God.

A LOVING person ...

is willing to make sacrifices for the good of others
learns from the heroic lives of saints and holy people
knows that we are all lovable as God created us
offers prayers for the needs of others

SACRAMENTAL DATES
We congratulate our Grade 2 students who received the
sacrament of First Reconciliation on March 11th, 2015 at St.
Catherine of Siena Parish, as they continue their Sacramental
preparation classes at the church for their First Holy
Communion on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
The Grade 8 students who are participating in the
Sacramental preparation classes at the church will celebrate
their Confirmation on Tuesday, May 26th, 2015 at 7:00 PM.
CONFIRMATION CHANGE 2015-2016
Under Code 891 of the Church’s Code of Canon Law,
Confirmation is to be administered at the age of discretion
unless the Bishops’ Conference has decided on a different
age. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB)
has decreed that, in our rite, the sacrament of Confirmation
shall be conferred at an age determined by the diocese. The
Archdiocese of Toronto has notified parishes that
Confirmation for elementary school students will be moved
from Grade 8 to Grade 7, effective September 2015. NOTE:
This year’s Grade 7 students will still be confirmed when
they are in Grade 8 next year. This year’s Grade 6 students
will also be confirmed in their Grade 7 year. Please contact
St. Catherine of Siena Parish for more detailed information.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL
DID YOU KNOW … ?
Communication between home and school is greatly enhanced
by parental involvement with the Catholic School Council.
Council meetings typically occur the first Wednesday of each
month.
All Council Members and parents/guardians are
encouraged to come out to meetings and participate. Our next
School Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 1 st at
7:00 PM in the school library. All parents welcome!
April 2 - Autism Speaks™ celebrates World Autism Day with a
global autism awareness campaign called Light It Up Blue so wear
blue to show your support!
Final Meeting
May 20, 2015
On Friday, April 17th , our Catholic School
Council has organized a Family Movie Night
in the school gym! Doors open at 6:00 PM
and the movie will begin at 7:00 PM. The
license for the Disney movie: Alexander and
the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day has been
arranged. Bring a blanket, mat, cushion or sleeping bag. All
children MUST be accompanied by an adult. No outside food is
permitted, but there will be pizza, hot dogs, nut-free snacks,
coffee and tea available for purchase. Movie information and
order forms will be sent home shortly. Stay tuned!
April 8 - The Day of Pink is the International Day against Bullying,
Discrimination, and Homophobia across the world. Everyone is
invited to celebrate diversity by wearing pink. The Day of Pink
began when two students saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt
being bullied. They encouraged everyone at their school to wear
pink as a symbol of solidarity. The message was clear: anyone can
bully, any one can be victimized by bullying, but together we can
prevent it. The International Day of Pink is more than just a symbol
of our shared belief in celebrating diversity; it’s also a commitment
to being open-minded, accepting differences, and learning to
respect the dignity of every human because we are all created and
loved by God.
April 12 to 18 - National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize,
celebrate and thank Canada’s volunteers, who all appreciate a
genuine thank you. Whether it is with words highlighting the
impact of a volunteers’ contribution or a small token, a sincere
thanks makes a difference. At St. Timothy School, we certainly
appreciate and thank all our wonderful parent volunteers!

INTERMEDIATE BASKETBALL
SCHOOL CHESS TEAMS
Even though we are still in the early
part of the Intermediate Basketball
season, the Boys and Girls Teams
have been working very hard with
their coaches, Mr. D’Souza and
Ms. Dzugan. We wish both teams
luck as they look forward to their
scheduled games on April 9, 14, 16, 20, and 23 with
other schools from the Mississauga East Family. Thank
you to all the players for their enthusiasm and effort, as
well as to their parents and the coaches for their
ongoing support. GO TITANS GO!
Congratulations to the Primary and Junior Chess players
for their excellent performance at the Mississauga East
Chess Tournament on March 11th at Corpus Christi
School. Although they did not advance to the Board
tournament, our players scored many victories and
demonstrated a great sense of fair play, excellent
knowledge and skill, as well as great enthusiasm and
dedication for the traditional game of chess.
Kudos to our emerging TITAN grandmasters!
SKILLS CANADA
COMPETITION:
JUNIOR / INTERMEDIATE LEGO TEAMS
There’s a new team in town! The Titans have once again
demonstrated their diverse interest – this time with
building Lego! St. Timothy School has started a Lego
Club for Junior and Intermediate students. Interested
students have been meeting weekly to solve challenges
using Lego from a specialized kit. Students, ranging from
Grades 4 to 8, have been working together to design,
construct and solve fun scientific/technological
challenges. A team of four Junior and four Intermediate
students will soon be selected to represent St. Timothy
at the Skills Canada Board competition to be held on
April 8th. Thank you to our Catholic School Council for
their generous support in purchasing these specialized
Lego kits so our school could participate in the Skills
competition for the first time. GO TITANS GO!
MISSISSAUGA STEELHEADS HOCKEY GAME
A number of our families were able
to attend a Mississauga Steelheads
hockey game last month thanks to
the connections and generosity of
Catholic School Council member, Nicoletta Vessio.

Thank you to the Chess Club coaches, Ms. Garcia, Ms.
Jach, Ms. Dzugan, and Mr. Allen, for “checking” in with
the chess players during lunch practices as they guided
students to improve their skills by “making their moves.”
APRIL SHOWERS
As we are hopefully moving toward the season of
Spring, water and mud around the school yard is
inevitable. Although we direct students to stay away
from mud and puddles and close the field area if
needed, accidents do happen. If students do get wet
during outdoor play or recess, our school approach is to
contact parents to bring dry clothing. For younger
students especially, we suggest you place an extra pair
of socks and/or track pants in your child’s backpack in
the event that a change of clothes is necessary.

EARTH HOUR
On Friday, March 27th, St. Timothy
School celebrated Earth Hour from
1:15 - 2:15 PM. During this time, all
classroom lights and non-essential
lights were turned off. As well, all
computers, laptops, SMART™Boards,
photocopiers, and other equipment
requiring electricity were shut down.
Thank you to all staff and students for recognizing that
we have the “POWER” to Change Climate Change!
EARTH WEEK 2015: APRIL 20 - 24
EARTH DAY 2015: APRIL 22
During the week of April 20th to 24th,
St. Timothy will be celebrating Earth
Week. Each day of the week will
focus on a special theme and
students will be involved in a variety
of activities.
MONDAY: Black Monday - Wear black and turn off
the lights all day.
Earth Day Notebook/Notepad Sale - Our Eco Team
will be selling notebooks and notepads for 25
cents. The booklets were created out of GOOS (“Good
On One Side”) paper from around the school and the
notepads are from scrap cuttings from our school
board Printing Department.
TUESDAY: Trashless Tuesday - Students bring wastefree lunch, and take home leftover trash from lunch.
WEDNESDAY: EARTH DAY - Wear Green or Blue to
represent land and water.
Used Book Sale - organized by Ms. Chyz’s class.
Outdoor Earth Day School Liturgy - students bring a
blanket or towel to sit on outside as we praise God’s
great gift of creation.
THURSDAY:
Recycling Challenge Classes are invited to use recycled
materials to build a structure or animal.
Used Book Sale - continues in the Library.
GREAT BIG CRUNCH
During the past few weeks, the Health Action Team
has been working hard, trying to think of ways to
persuade students to drink water in reusable bottles.
We decided to create Waterful Wednesdays. Every
Wednesday, we shared announcements about the
benefits of drinking water, and at lunch time, we went
around to classes and took a tally of how many
students in each class were making water their drink
of choice. The classes with the most participation
received a Waterful Wednesday trophy! They also had
their picture taken and it was posted on our Eco
Schools board in the school.
On March 12th, our school participated in The Great
Big Crunch and Great Gulp. We did this to promote
healthy eating and drinking tap water. We washed all
the apples with tap water the day before. Just before
recess, the whole school took a bite of a crunchy,
nutritious apple and then we all took a big gulp of tap
water – all at the same time! Some of us even added
slices of lemons and limes to our water for a little zing
and zest! Thanks again to The Apple Market™ for
donating the red delicious apples. They really were
delicious and crunchy!
Even though our Waterful Wednesdays are over for
now, we are all encouraged to continue to make water
our number one drink!
Our Tuesday Kilometre Club members drink lots of
water and have a little extra “spring” in their step now
that the warmer weather is here and we can run
outside again!
Thank you also to Ms. Zabukovec, Ms. Kontostergios,
Ms. Harden, and Ms. Romeo for organizing the H.A.T.
events and for making being healthy so fun!
Written by Grade 5 members of the Health Action
Team: Kaitlyn C-R., Cicilija J., and Chloe T.
FRIDAY: School Ground Clean-up - Gloves and
garbage bags will be provided for classes to go outside
and clean up our school grounds.

100 ACTS OF KINDNESS
WANTED: GENTLY USED BOOKS
In February, we celebrated the 100th Day of School and
Health Action Team members invited staff and students to
build our acts of kindness wall to continue into March,
since our Virtue focus for last month was Kindness. Each
day in March during announcements, an example of what
was posted on the wall was read. Here are a few
examples:
open the door for someone
smile at someone you don’t know
say a prayer for those who don’t have food
give someone a compliment every day
Don’t throw away your unwanted books!
Donate them to our Used Book Sale to
celebrate Earth Day. The sale will be
held on Wednesday, April 22nd and
Thursday, April 23rd in our school library.
Each book will cost 50 cents and
students may purchase as many books as they like. The
money raised from this event will be used to support
environmental initiatives. Please bring in your donations
of gently used children’s books during the week of April
14th to April 17th . They will be collected daily by the
students from Ms. Chyz’s Grade 5 class. Thank you for
your support and for caring about our environment!
SCHOOL MUSICAL
Willy Wonka Jr. will be presented
May 13th and 14th at 7:00 PM.
“Golden” Tickets will be sold for
$5 each and will go on sale in the
coming weeks. Stay tuned!
The cast and crew are working
very hard under the direction of Ms. Hyde and are really
excited to bring this awesome musical adventure to the
St. Timothy community!
SOAP AND SALT UPDATE
FRENCH CAFÉ
The French classes of Madame Krampert
and Monsieur Riopel will once again be
hosting our French Café on Friday, April 17th
during school hours.
Classes will be
scheduled to attend at various times during
the day and parents are also welcome to attend!
Students are invited to pre-order croissants and
beverages that will be served at the café. Order forms
for students will be sent home shortly. Additional
croissants, coffee and tea will be available for parents
only to purchase at the Café. Vive la France!
FDK INQUIRY SPOTLIGHT
St. Timothy School has been participating in a soap and
salt fundraiser for Dr. Simone’s Warehouse, through his
charity Canadian Food for Children (CFFC). For the past
few weeks, students in Ms. Di Iorio’s Grade 4 class were
collecting soap and salt as part of our Lenten almsgiving
project. You are probably wondering how many bars of
soap and boxes of salt we collected. Our generous school
has donated 1235 bars of soap and 218 boxes of salt! We
completely passed our goal of 1000 bars of soap and 150
boxes of salt – hooray! We know that Dr. Simone and
many people who are less fortunate will appreciate it. As
always, great job, St. Timothy! Thank you for all your
support. Caring is sharing!
Written by Grade 4 students: Adah P., Cassandra S, Isabel
L., Kyle M., and Mark N.
Last month, in Room 105, students
were riding the wave of an inquiry unit
on “Ocean Creatures.” The students
engaged in a Skype™ session with
Jennifer Nolan, marine biologist and
author of the book, Sea Turtles Up
Close. Children were able to ask the author about the
many wonderings they had about sea turtles after
reading her book. Some of the students’ inquiry
questions included, “How does a turtle swim?”; “What
does a turtle eat?”; “What predators eat turtles?” and
“How is a sea turtle born?” Aside from Skyping with Ms.
Nolan, students were exposed to many non-fiction texts
and used computer search engines to find the answers to
these and many more wonderings they had about
creatures that live in the ocean. In addition, the students
planned and created their own “submarine” to travel into
the depths of the ocean through imaginative play!

CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR 2015-2016
We will soon begin the process of developing class lists
and staffing for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year.
While all placements are tentative until possible
reorganization in September, we recognize that
parents/guardians may have preferences or special
considerations for the placement of their child(ren).
Parents may provide input by submitting a letter in
writing which outlines educational reasons for the
placement of their child(ren). Please include information
regarding factors in a learning environment that are
relevant to your child’s needs (i.e. instructional style of
teacher, learning style of child, peer relationships, etc. )
Our goal throughout the placement process at St.
Timothy is to ensure that we create the best possible
educational environment for all students, as we strive
for a balance of learning styles, learning needs, gender,
social considerations, and a cross-section of abilities.
Please refrain from requesting a specific teacher for
your child(ren).
Although all requests will be
considered, depending on the factors mentioned above,
not all requests may be honoured. For those parents/
guardians who choose to offer their input for
consideration, please submit written requests to
Ms. Kovacs PRIOR to May 10th, 2015.
MOVING / NEW REGISTRATIONS
The provincial Education Quality and Accountability Office
(EQAO) has designated the dates for the Primary and Junior
Divisions Assessments of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
We request that parents of Grades 3 and 6 students refrain
from booking vacations or other appointments that would
result in their child(ren) being away from school during the
period of May 25 to June 5, 2015. More specific dates, times,
and information for our school will follow closer to the
assessment time. Visit www.dpcdsb.org/EQAO for Board and
school profiles.
If you are moving from our area and will not be
attending St. Timothy in September 2015, or you have a
change of address or contact information, please inform
the Office as soon as possible.
In addition, if you know of families who will be
registering their children to attend St. Timothy School in
September 2015, please encourage them to register
them as soon as possible. Our class organization and
school staffing for September relies on accurate
enrolment projections.
E.Q.A.O. AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING
After-school tutoring sessions for registered Grades 3 and 6
students are currently taking place on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 PM at the school and will
continue until the E.Q.A.O. assessments begin in May.
If parents would like to have their child(ren) practice sample
questions at home, they may visit http://www.eqao.com/

PARISH INFORMATION
YEAR OF
CONSECRATED LIFE
“The joy of the Gospel
fills the heart and lives of all
who encounter Jesus.
With Jesus Christ,
joy is constantly born anew.”
Easter Sunday is April 5th!
God our Father, Creator of all,
today is the day of Easter joy.
This is the morning on which the Lord appeared
to those who had begun to lose their hope
and opened their eyes to what the scriptures foretold:
that first He must die, and then He would rise
and ascend into His Father’s glorious presence.
May the Risen Lord breathe on our minds and open
our eyes that we may know Him in the breaking of the
bread, and follow Him always.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
AMEN.
THANK YOU to all those
parishioners who have made their
pledges for the Archdiocesan
Family of Faith Campaign.
Our parish has exceeded
its goal of $670,000.
