PRAYER FOR A NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Loving and gracious God,
As we begin this new school year,
we gather once again as a community of believers.
We thank You for the energy and the spirit that You renewed in us
through the summer months. We thank You for the time to enjoy
our family and friends and to reflect on what is important in our lives.
Let this year be marked by enthusiasm and love so that,
with the inspiration of Your Spirit, we may continue to grow in our faith.
Help us to fulfill Your hope for us with honest intentions and works of faith.
Guide us and teach us this year as we strive to become better students
and disciples of Jesus, our greatest teacher.
We ask this in Your holy name.
+ AMEN.
PRINCIPAL’S GREETINGS
As this new school year begins, we
would like to extend a warm welcome
to all of the new families who have
joined our school community.
Welcome back to those returning to
St. Timothy School.
For staff that have left our
community, we wish them well in
their new assignments.
We are
excited to welcome new staff
members to our school team and
together, we look forward to the
upcoming school year.
As our school population changes, so
too will the make-up of the classes
and programs offered. This past
summer, we had a portable added to
the south end of our school yard. As a
school community we will continue to
strive for excellence in all areas, as
supported by our school motto:
“Cooperate, Educate, Celebrate.”
All parents/guardians are invited to
attend our Open House & Bar-B-Q on
Wednesday, September 17th. This
will be an excellent opportunity to
develop and strengthen the important
connection between home and
school.
I look forward to working with you in
partnership as we strive to achieve
the goals of Catholic Education. I wish
each of you a year filled with
rewarding opportunities and look
forward to the blessings that St.
Timothy staff, students, and families
will experience in 2014-2015. Thank
you for your continued support.
Sincerely, K. Kovacs

ST. TIMOTHY STAFF LIST
SCHOOL ORGANIZATION
& CLASSROOM INFORMATION
The beginning of each school year is always
marked by unexpected changes which
require all of us to be understanding,
accommodating and flexible.
The
September school organization is based on
projected enrolment prepared by the
Board’s Planning Department.
Such
enrolment projection determines the
number of teachers assigned to the school
and consequently, the grade and class
configurations.
In the event that student enrolment falls
below or above projections, an adjustment
to the number of teachers assigned to the
school follows, which may affect the
placement of your child.
Staffing and student class placements are
still tentative.
Based on increased enrolment, we may
need to reorganize the classes. Therefore,
please note that your child’s class is not
final until after reorganization occurs. If
reorganization is necessary, we will work as
quickly as possible to establish new student
and/or teacher assignments.
We will
endeavour to keep the best interests of
your child in mind if a new class placement
is required.

MESSAGE FROM BRUNO IANNICCA,
CATHOLIC SCHOOL TRUSTEE, Ward 7
I’d like to take this opportunity to
welcome you back for another year of
learning, growth and memory-generating
experiences at St Timothy. If you are new
to the community, welcome! This is an
outstanding school and I know your
child(ren) will thrive here.
I certainly hope that you had a wonderful holiday. I’d
normally say a wonderful “summer” holiday, but it felt more
like spring and fall weather then it did summer weather!
My hope is that the past two months has given us all an
opportunity to recharge our batteries and get ready for the
challenges of another school year.
In this regard, I look forward to seeing you around the school
and at school functions. In addition, I encourage you to get
involved with the Catholic School Advisory Council at St
Timothy as this is the forum where school and board issues
regarding your children are discussed.
Again, welcome and I look forward to seeing you. God Bless.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
As required by the Education Act and the Ministry of
Education, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board
annually provides parents with information about cost effective student accident insurance coverage. Although

especially if their child(ren) participate(s) in sports,
excursions/field trips, or, if parents do not have dental
insurance coverage.
Brochures for Reliable Life Insurance have been sent home
on the first day of school. You may purchase coverage for

SCHOOL AGENDAS & TEXTBOOKS
School agendas have been ordered
for students in Grades 1—8 to assist
your child in organizing his/her
time.
The teachers will be
reviewing the importance of the
agenda with their students. Your
child is responsible for recording
their homework, upcoming projects/assignments, tests/
quizzes, important dates and teacher communication on a
daily basis. We ask that you check your child’s agenda on a
daily basis to keep informed of school and classroom
events. Please read the important information for parents
in the front pages of the agenda.
Textbooks for course subjects are loaned out to students
with the expectation that they are returned at the end of
the school year in good condition. The teachers keep a
record of each textbook that are assigned to students.
Please help to keep our costs down by encouraging your
child to take proper care of them. There will be a
replacement cost to the student if the textbook is damaged,
lost, or not returned to the school.
STUDENT INFORMATION
Student Verification Forms for each child will
be sent after the September PA Day. All forms
should be returned to the appropriate
classroom teacher no later than Thursday,
September 18th, 2014. This information is
important and required
to update our
records. We ask you to sign and return this
form even those which have correct information.
Parents are responsible for ensuring the school has an
accurate and up-to-date record of the address, phone
numbers, and emergency contacts for your child(ren). We
ask that you inform the main office or your child’s teacher
promptly if information changes during the school year.
Custody of Children
On rare occasions, we are faced with difficult situations in
which non-custodial parents/guardians arrive at school
asking to visit a student or sign them out. We are best able
to serve and protect our students when we are made aware
of legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and other
special circumstances. Please inform the main office of
these issues as soon as possible and we will ensure your
child’s teacher is aware of the arrangements.
ALLERGIES & MEDICATION
Peanut and Other Life-Threatening
Sabrina’s Law Anaphylaxis Reaction
Allergies,
As we begin the new school year, we would like to inform
you that St. Timothy School is an allergen-aware school.
St. Timothy School Newsletter
There are pupils in attendance at our school who suffer
from severe and life-threatening allergies to certain foods,
such as peanut and tree nut products. Exposure to the
smallest quantities can cause severe and life-threatening
reactions. Anaphylaxis is a severe and life threatening
allergic reaction. The most common allergen triggers are
food, insect stings, medications, exercise and latex. An
anaphylactic reaction involves symptoms from two or more
body systems.
We would appreciate the cooperation of the entire school
community by ensuring all snacks/lunches sent to school
are peanut, tree nut, and shellfish allergen-free. We want
St. Timothy Catholic School to be a safe environment for all
students. Thank you for your assistance with this initiative.
If your child has been diagnosed with this allergy and you
have not notified the school, please do so immediately.
There are forms that must be completed.
A written communication will be sent to the parents of
children notifying them of the nature of a life threatening
allergy when it is specific to their child’s classroom. Your
continued cooperation in support of our efforts to create a
safe and healthy learning environment for all is greatly
appreciated!
Please do not send snacks / cakes / treats into the school
for birthdays or special occasions (e.g. Hallowe’en). There
are many non-food alternatives such as stickers and pencils.
Medical Concerns
If your child has any medical concerns,
please ensure that you inform the
school. Information may be shared
directly with the classroom teacher/
office.
If medication is required,
forms will be required for completion
by parents and the family doctor. All
information is held in confidence.
Medication
School staff cannot administer medication, (including
aspirins and Tylenol) without a “Request and Consent for
Administration of Medication” form, completed and signed
by a doctor. A properly labeled container is required,
including the instructions and conditions that are to be
followed for the administration of the medication for the
safety of the child.
Parents of children with life threatening medical concerns/
allergies are asked to notify Ms. Dal’Bo in the school office
and fully complete an Emergency Medication Protocol form
each September and return it to the school as soon as
possible. All medication is stored in the office area. The only
exception to this requirement has to do with any child who,
because of life threatening allergies, must carry medication.

FIRE DRILL & LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES
CANADA’S ANTI-SPAM LEGISLATION
St. Timothy School is required to conduct
three fire drills in the fall and three in the
spring. We will also be conducting two
lockdown drills throughout the year. These
drills are standard practice across the Board
and ensure that in the event of a real
emergency, our students and staff can
respond quickly and appropriately.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding these drills,
please speak to your child’s teacher or the main office.
On July 1, 2014, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
came into law. It prohibits the sending of commercial
electronic messages, including e-mails, that encourage
participation in a commercial activity, unless the sender has
received the recipient’s consent prior to sending the
message.
DRESS CODE & APPROPRIATE ATTIRE
Board Policy states that all students are expected to dress in
clean, neat and practical attire. Appropriate attire is the
criterion for acceptable dress that most often reflects our
attitude toward any given situation. The expectation here is
that we avoid such recreational wear such as tank tops,
halter tops, muscle shirts, tube tops, spaghetti straps, short
shorts, cut offs, hats/headgear, wallet chains and shirts with
inappropriate logos/symbols. The items are contrary to
both the philosophy of our Catholic schools and the
standards that we set as parents and educators.
“WE SHARE THE AIR”
As many individuals in our school have allergies and/or
respiratory conditions (e.g. asthma) which can be triggered
by fragrances, we would like to remind everyone that St.
Timothy participates in a “We Share the Air” initiative. Due
to this “SCENT-sitivity,” we request that all staff, students,
and visitors refrain from the use of any perfumed/fragrant
products both prior to arrival at the school and while in
the building throughout the day.
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES
To promote and maintain a positive and safe Catholic
school climate, the Board maintains a
policy regarding all Personal Electronic
Devices (PEDs). ALL PEDs are to be kept
OFF and OUT OF SIGHT during school
hours. For the safety of students and
protection of these valuable devices, we
kindly request that these devices remain at home and are
not brought to school. The school will not be held
responsible for damaged or lost items.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and St.
Timothy School require your consent to send any electronic
messages which promote, advertise or offer for sale goods
and services, such as, school photos or school fundraisers.
Your child brought home a form (part of the start-up
package sent home on the first day) asking for your consent
to receive electronic communications, which may contain
commercial electronic messages, such as the examples
described above. If you are interested in receiving emails
from the school, including the monthly newsletter, please
sign and date this form, and return it to your child’s
teacher. You may withdraw your consent at any time by
notifying the main office.

SAFE SCHOOLS — IMPORTANT NOTICE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FRONT DOORS LOCKED – SEPTEMBER, 2014
Dear Parents and/or Guardians:
We strive to make sure that our school is a safe, caring, healthy and inclusive place in which to learn and to work. Fire drills,
visitors’ badges/sign in and other safety and security protocols and practices are important components of our commitment to
maintaining a safe and secure school environment.
You may be aware that, through the province’s Safe School Welcome Program, our school received a grant last year that provided
for the installation of a front door speaker/buzzer/video monitoring system. The installation of this system allows us to
proactively enhance the safety and security of students and staff by locking the front doors after classes begin. This change in
access to our school requires a new access protocol that will apply to all visitors, including parents and guardians. The system is in
place and will continue to operate as per the procedures last year.
Under the system, visitors may gain entrance by pressing a buzzer mounted on the wall outside the building, beside the front
door. The buzzer activates a two-way speaker and camera system. The Office will then be able to determine who is at the door,
by observing on a video monitor. This will enable better regulation of visitor access to the school.
The following are also part of our safe schools protocol:
 All outside doors are locked and entry can be gained only through the front door.
 All visitors, including parents/guardians must sign into the office and wear a Visitor’s badge.
 Access during lunch time may be delayed depending on the availability of staff who are required to monitor the new system.
The co-operation and understanding of parents/guardians will be an important factor in the success of this protocol. In this
regard, parents/guardians are encouraged to:
 Arrive at school on time to allow children to enter with their classmates to avoid late entry, in which case students must sign
in at the office and obtain a late slip.
 Send lunch with your child in the morning to limit traffic in through the front door at lunch time.
 We respectfully request that you limit your visits to the school during the daytime as much as possible in order to protect the
instructional time and reduce interruptions.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation as we continue to implement the access protocol in September.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
K. Kovacs
Principal
