Many questions were asked about 21st Century Learning. I tried to get most of the conversation. It is obviously a big
topic.
QUESTION PERIOD
Romina, Will the school eventually look like the example on the screen? Bean bags, sofa's, chairs, couches etc. Karen
responded saying that it is not mandatory. Some children do better in a relaxed environment.
Dan B (Vice P) Spent a few minutes going into great deal about how the students choose to learn and where they learn.
Learning will now start to become quite different and bring back the energy of learning. Kids today learn differently.
Karman C Pointed out that she is embracing the new learning style
Nicoletta V What is the cost? Some rooms that are set up especially $1500.00 approx Pizza and Sub money is going to
the retrofit of the classrooms We are shifting because teachers are liking the idea of the new rooms. The government
will assist financially in part.
Liz L Wanted to know how the teachers are trained for the new style of learning. Professional Development is available
for the teachers Because St. Tim reported an interest we have a teacher that specifically assists 14 teachers here.
Laura G (Teacher) Has taught this in a different school. She used an example that moving the kids to the floor for a
lesson and the like it but found it uncomfortable so this is why the bean bags came. Even allowing the kids to be with a
partner of the kids choice allowed a more confident child and behavioral present come out.
Olga M What about proper posture and writing skills and health issues.? Dan B pointed out that kids won't even use
pencils and will only use tablets.
Yolanda H How are the kids assessed and do the kids have a choice to get the preferred bean bag for example? The
teacher will guild primarily and teacher observation.
Rosita? How many chairs? One bean/bag lounge chair in each class. Will slowly build inventory
Maria V How many schools? Some schools already
Member? Can we not achieve the same thing with a regular seating? It is a lot of money going towards this. Karen K
pointed out we are given resources through the board budget.
Carol F Suggested better communications to the parents regarding the changes with the learning changes and the
learning style. Parents want more information. Teachers are preparing the children.
January 23rd 2014 for the presentation and information night for literacy. A similar event will take place for
mathematics.

with this situation. A very sensitive issue that they are dealing with.
