Easter Prayer
Lord, the resurrection of Your Son
has given us new life and renewed hope.
Help us to live as new people
in pursuit of the Christian ideal.
Grant us wisdom to know what we must do,
the will to want to do it,
the courage to undertake it,
the perseverance to continue to do it,
and the strength to complete it.
Amen

INTERMEDIATE BASKETBALL:
The Intermediate Basketball season
is under way!
After two intense months of practice, our
intermediate boys basketball season has
finally begun. This month we will be
playing 7 games as part of our regular season. The competition will be stiff
but we hope that our preparations, courage, and talent will help lead us to a
successful season and hopefully a spot in the playoffs on May 4th. We
would like to end off by thanking the St. Thomas More community for all
of their support and encouragement. Go Grey Wolves! (written by Isiah,
Joshua, and Leandre, Int. Boys Basketball Team)
The 2016 intermediate girls basketball team has just started their season.
We have already played one game and are learning a lot. We are very
excited for the rest of our season and are looking forward to being the best
players we can be. (written by Gianna and Kiana, Int. Girls Basketball
Team)
Thank you to Mr. Di Franco, Miss Sequeira and Mrs. Venditti

Good luck to both teams!

STM CHESS CLUB:
STM’s Chess Club has been meeting twice a week since early February.
From our in-house friendly competition, Junior and Intermediate teams
were chosen to represent the school at the Family Chess Tournament,
which was held on Friday, April 1. Both teams played very well. The
Junior Team made it to the quarter-final stage, while the Intermediates,
despite their winning record, just missed out on a place in the knock-out
round. Congratulations to all members of the Chess Club. We are very
proud of you! Check and Mate. (written by Olenka and Julia STM
Chess Team).
Thank you to Mr. Grogan for running the Chess Club during
his lunch and coaching the STM Chess Team.
STM Eco School Team News:
The Eco team at STM will be busy organizing school events this month of April. For
the month of March, we participated in
Earth Hour on Friday, March 11th from 1011am where all classes had the lights off and
used “natural” light. With Earth Day approaching, on April 22nd the school will
participate in a variety of activities to celebrate the importance
of being an Earth friendly school and community. To commemorate Earth Day, students will be encouraged to walk to
school during the week of April 18th.
We have been doing many activities in our school to conserve energy and
waste. We have been improving our environment with Lightless Fridays
(written by Alexandra, Adjon, Veronica, Shawna, Dileesha and Theresa, STM Eco Team).
Thank you to Mrs. Santoro, and Mrs. Fera for leading our
school Eco Team.
Staff and students are asked to make a voluntary Lonnie donation to ShareLife and/or bring in a non-perishable food donation for the less fortunate members of our community.
STM YOUTH FAITH AMBASSADORS:
Our YFAs continue to work under the direction of Mrs. Delfin
to assist with our monthly Virtues Assemblies, School Masses
and other ongoing social justice initiatives. On April 15th a
select group of YFAs will be attending the annual Mississauga
East Diversity Conference. Our YFAs will have an opportunity
to participate in a gallery walk with their peers from other ME
schools. Our YFAs will present how STM students and staff
are “Opening the Doors of Mercy” by living out
Gospel values through ongoing social justice initiatives.

VIRTUE OF LOVE
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
'We encourage parents to discuss the monthly
Virtue of Love with their children.
‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, and with all your soul, and with all your
mind, and with all your strength.' The second
is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.
(Mark 12:30-31)
God wants us to serve and to see the goodness in everyone we
meet. Love involves a deliberate choice to give and to serve others even though the service may go unnoticed and unappreciated.
From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, an
accepting person...
 Relates to family intimacy and sexuality as God-given gifts,
to be used as the creator intended
 Relates to family members in a loving, compassionate and
respectful manner especially when the other seems
'unlovable'
 Respects the rights, responsibilities and contributions of self
and others
Please join us at our Virtue Assembly celebrating Love on:

Catholic Education Week (May 1-6, 2016)
In celebration of Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year, the theme for 2016
is “Opening Doors of Mercy.” Catholic Education Week begins
on Sunday May 1st to highlight the parish-home-school partnership that remains the foundation of Catholic Education. There
are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week.
Monday “Mercy that Welcomes”
Tuesday “Mercy that Loves”
Wednesday “Mercy that Forgives”
Thursday “ Mercy that Lives the Gospel”
Friday “ Mercy that Rejoices”
A schedule of classroom and school events will be sent out late
April. Please consider visiting your child during this celebration
of Catholic Education.

2016-2017 CLASS PLACEMENTS
In
May of each year, teachers and administrators work together to
discuss the academic and social/emotional needs of your child, and
determine the class placement that will best meet these needs.
Please be aware that there may be a need to develop combined classes – a reality in all schools in the province. Until we finalize our
enrolment in September all class arrangements – and teacher assignments – are tentative. The goal of the extensive process we
employ is to ensure we create the best possible educational environment for all our students. If you wish to have input that will assist
us regarding placement of your child for September 2016, please
submit the educational needs of your child in writing to Mrs. Nicoletti no later than Friday, May 13, 2016.
EQAO PROVINCIAL ASSESSMENT
During April and May all grade 3 and 6 students will begin preparing for the EQAO provincial assessment. This year the provincial
assessment will take place from May 25th to June 8th, 2016. We
encourage parents/guardians to visit the following link below for
additional information on the assessment and parent resources to
support your child at home. http://www.eqao.com/Parents
Parents/guardians are asked to consider avoiding making school
day appointments during the assessment period. A more detailed
assessment schedule will be sent home as we approach the assessment dates.
