Dear Parents,
Ms. Raposo and I would like to welcome everyone to a new school year. We hope you and
your families have enjoyed your summer vacation and are ready to begin an exciting school year!
We are looking forward to working with you and your child(ren) and helping them learn and grow.
Throughout the school year we will be providing you with a monthly newsletter and
calendar which will outline topics we are studying, special events occurring each month, and
indicating who our special helpers are each day. If your child is the special helper of the day
he/she will have the opportunity to assist us with various routines throughout the day. Please
also refer to the St. Nicholas monthly newsletter for other important school events, masses
and assemblies.
Although homework is not included in the full day kindergarten program, we encourage
students to read or be read to on a daily basis. Our Snuggle Up and Read Program will be
introduced later this year. You may also review concepts taught in class with your child(ren).
Suggestions for activities and questions to support learning at home will be provide in our
newsletter each month.
In September we will spend time learning classroom routines in order to allow the
children to become familiar with their new classroom and the daily routines in kindergarten.
Please remember to check your child’s backpack on a daily basis for any communications. Each
child has received a communication bag which will be kept in their backpack and sent back and
forth each day. The communication bag will also be used for notes, student work, newsletters
etc. Please use the communication bag to communicate using notes. In the event you wish to
reach us, please do not hesitate to call the school and leave a message. Ms. Raposo or I will
return your call as soon as one of us is able to.
We look forward to and amazing school year learning with you and your child(ren)!
~Ms. Henderson and Ms. Raposo

Scholastic Book Orders
The best way to start children on the path to becoming great readers is by introducing them to
wonderful books that not only get them excited about reading, but also help develop important
skills.
The Scholastic Book Club offers a selection of fantastic books for your child. All of the books are
specifically chosen for their quality and appeal, as well as appropriate reading level and content.
Scholastic offers a wide range of books that are guaranteed to meet kids’ varying interests and
abilities.
Plus, every Scholastic Book Club order earns us Bonus Coupons that we can redeem for FREE books
and learning materials for our classroom!
If you are interested in making a purchase, please indicate your selections on the order form.
Then, either make a cheque payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd., or make a payment online using
the Parent Pay option (Please see the attachment for more information on this exciting new
payment option!). Order forms must be returned to the school by the last day of each month.
Money for Trips,
Book Orders or
Fundraisers
When bringing money
to school for trips,
book orders and
fundraisers, please
have your child bring
the money in a Ziploc
bag labelled with his
or her name.
Criminal Reference Check
In order to volunteer in the school, or on field trips, you must have a
police reference check completed by the school. This reference check
is provided free of charge through the school. It can take several
weeks to process your application, so please complete this check as
early in the year as possible.
Also, if you have completed a police reference check within the last 2
years, a declaration may need to be complete.
Please visit the school’s office and one of our lovely secretaries will
advise you on any necessary paperwork that needs to be completed.
