Taft – February 22-24
Please have your child at school between 8:15and 8:30 on Monday
Please be at May Whitney at 1:45 on Wednesday to pick your child up
Literacy/Reading – We will continue reading and understanding fiction. The next
two weeks we will focus on:
Author’s purpose
Identifying the main idea
Math – We will continue Module 8 when we return from Taft. During this unit the
children will learn:
Standard division algorithm
Methods to divide by a two digit multiple of ten
Converting between centimeters and meters
Converting between millimeters and centimeters
Converting between millimeters and meters
Converting between meters and kilometers
Science – We will finish up our unit on Force and Motion when we return from Taft.
We will be reading about:
Sir Isaac Newton,
Newton’s Laws of Motion
Social Studies – We will start chapter 13, People Moving South and West next
week. During this chapter, the children will learn about:
What brought settlers into the southern frontier
How the United States gained land from Mexico
Trails to the West
The California Gold Rush
Writing – Independent Research Project – We continue writing in class. This week,
we worked on organizing our research and planning the body paragraphs. Today, the
kids started writing their first body paragraph. When we return from Taft, they will spend
the rest of the week finishing the second and third paragraphs as well as the
introduction and conclusion.
Reminder: Your child’s project is due March 11th. * The project is to be completed at
home.
