Welcome To First Grade!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing summer and are gearing up for a great school
year, I know I am! I look forward to working with you and helping your child grow this
year. I would like to take a moment to welcome you and your child into my classroom and
to tell you a little about myself. I grew up in Lake Zurich and am thrilled to be teaching
in the same district I attended. I received my teaching degree from Illinois State
University and completed my year-long student teaching in a first and second grade
classroom. This is my second year teaching and I am so excited to be teaching first
grade at Seth Paine again!
Communication
The best way to communicate with me is via email at jessica.rogers@lz95.org. I check it
often and will respond as soon as I can. You can also reach me through the school phone
at 847.540.4759 before school 8:30 AM and after school 3:15 PM. Please keep in mind
that each day is very busy and although I check my messages throughout the day, I am
not always available. If there is information I need to know prior to the end of the
school day, please call the office and they will make sure I receive it.
Curriculum
On September 2nd, Seth Paine will be having a K-2 Curriculum Night for parents only
from 6:30-7:30 PM. I will explain the first grade curriculum as well as all of our
classroom procedures at this time.
Supplies
If possible, please drop off your supplies before the first day of school. You can bring
them with you on Meet the Teacher day, this Thursday August 20 th. Meet the Teacher
will last from 11:00-11:45 AM. Please be sure to write your child’s name on each of their
supplies (except for the pencils). When you arrive on Thursday, you and your child can
explore our room and put their supplies away together! If you are unable to attend Meet
the Teacher, you can drop off your child’s supplies in the office and I will have them in
their desk for the first day of school.
Dismissal
If your child is being picked up, he/she will meet you in the music room. Mrs. Rothermel
requests that parents do not wait in the foyer area because it gets crowded and that
slows down the children trying to get to their buses. If your child is a walker, could you
please meet him/her in the music room for the first day. Even if you have chosen a
meeting place, it gets hectic and some children get nervous if they do not see the pickup person right away or sometimes forget where to go. Use the first day to remind and
show the walker where to meet each day. A teacher will walk these children down the
hallway and make sure they get where they are supposed to be. Just a reminder that
Monday is a full day of school so dismissal will begin at 2:50. If your child is a buser,
they will wait in our room for their bus to be called and then they will walk to their bus.
Water Bottles
You are welcome to send your student with a water bottle every day that has a pull top
(not screw top). The school is not air conditioned and can get quite warm. Please check
the weather each morning and dress your child appropriately.
Parent Survey
Please complete the parent survey below by the first day of school. Your input is
extremely important to me! You can click on the link below or go to our classroom
website and click on the link there.

I hope I have answered some of your questions! Over the next few weeks, you will be
receiving emails and papers sent home containing more information about our school
year. I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
Sincerely,
Miss Rogers
