May the flame of His presence
grow brighter and brighter
in our hearts, in our school,
and in our world.
May the God of Hope
fill us with joy and peace
this Christmas

Amen.

Emergency Procedures Drills
In accordance with Ministry regulations, we have conducted three fire drills this fall. While we hope that a
real fire never occurs, this practice
helps prepare students in the event of
a real fire. In addition, we have also
completed a lockdown practice. This
procedure is intended to prepare students should a high risk incident occur on school property or in the near vicinity.

LIBRARY NEWS
“When I discovered libraries, it was like having
Christmas every day.”
Jean Fritz
The Ontario Library Association has released the
nominated titles for the Forest of Reading Awards.
We will enjoy reading the Blue Spruce and Silver Birch Express nominees over the next several months.
As we prepare for the wonderful season of Christmas, students will
also enjoy a variety of Christmas stories and activities in the library.
One of my fondest memories is reading The Crippled Lamb by Max
Lucado to my children every Christmas season. Other favourites included The Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski,
The Polar Express by Chris van Allsburg and of course, The Grinch
Who Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss.
Share a beautiful Christmas story with your family as part of your
family tradition. Wishing you all a holy and blessed Christmas!

News From Room 101
The students and staff from room 101 would like to
once again thank all the families and students for their
support of the milk and cookies program and healthy
snack shop. The funds that are generated through
these programs helps us fund programming in the
classroom and especially learning trips around the
community. It also teaches the students a number of
life skills. The second session for milk and cookies will begin in the
new year. The Healthy snack shop has been a successful venture. All
items sold at the shop meet the Ontario Healthy school guidelines.
The frozen yogurt has been our top selling item as students continue
to enjoy the different flavors offered. The shop is run by a group of
dedicated volunteers from the grade 8 class. This experience helps
students build skills that give them self confidence and help make
Queen of Heaven a better school community.
Volleyball Teams
Our Intermediate girls and boys teams’ season has come to an
end. Our athletes demonstrated good sportsmanship and
showed improvement of their serving skills as the season progressed. Thank you to our coaches: Mrs. Cameron and Ms.

CELEBRATING ADVENT
The season of Advent begins
with the fourth Sunday before
Christmas. This year, the
liturgical season of Advent
begins Sunday, November
29, 2015. “Advent” is a Latin
word meaning “the coming”.
During the season of Advent, Christians across the world
prepare for the celebration of the coming of the Lord
into the world through the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Advent is a time to celebrate light in the midst of darkness, as symbolized best by the Advent Wreath.
At Queen of Heaven we emphasize the implications of
the birth of our Saviour through our Christian actions.
We ensure that Advent is a time where we emphasize
charity and social justice. It is a time to prepare the way,
to make God real each and every day through prayer,
charity and social justice. The following activities provide a small window into how the staff and students at
Queen of Heaven are the arms, legs, and hands of God.
YOUTH FAITH AMBASSADORS
The Youth Faith Ambassador Program encourage Catholic elementary school students to live out our baptismal
call to become Fully Alive in the Lord Jesus Christ
through care for themselves and others. The role of the
Youth Ambassador is to become an active Christian
through the knowledge of God’s word, deepening their
own faith development and bettering their communities
through service. Staff members leading our Youth Ambassadors are Mr. Napoleone, Ms. Gomes, Mr. Arduini,
Mrs. Sanelli and Ms. Evans. Our Youth Faith Ambassadors attended a commissioning mass and celebration at
Cristo Rei Church. Rev. Carlos T. Macatangga, presided
over the mass. He defined the role of the Faith Ambassadors for the students and encouraged them to be role
models of faith and of the virtues. He told the students
that we should never compromise our faith to just
“belong”, that we need to do what is right and not always what is popular. The students will share their experience as ambassadors throughout the year and create opportunities for becoming active witnesses in our
school community.
Our Youth Faith Ambassadors are also involved in community outreach opportunities.
