NEWSLETTER # 8
June 2010
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
GO WITH GOD
As you leave school for the summer,
and you lay aside textbooks,
notebooks, pencils and pens,
Go with God,
for God goes with you.
As you begin new projects
or a well deserved family vacation,
as you meet and make new friends,
Go with God,
God will guide you.
As you enjoy the summer sun
and the summer’s cool blue waters,
be wise and safe.
Respect the beauty of the earth
as God’s gift to you,
Go with God,
for God has created you.
As you enjoy the peace and beauty
of your holiday
Go with God,
for God always goes with you.
Keep this summer prayer in your heart.
I would like to thank the students, parents and
staff for their wonderful support during my two
years as Principal at Pauline Vanier Catholic
School. The students have participated in many
activities and events, sharing their many gifts
and talents with the both the school community
and our world community.
A special thank you to L. Kazimowicz,
Superintendent, for her genuine interest and
support of our school, especially in the area of

such a positive difference for the students.

CLASS PLACEMENTS IN SEPTEMBER
As in previous years, due to the freedom of
Information and Privacy Act, class lists and
teacher placements will not be publicized before
the first day of school. There are often many
registration shifts that happen in August and
early September due to new registrations.
Please note that class lists will be finalized on
Reorganization Day on September 12, 2010.
In September when students arrive on their first
day, they will meet with the teachers at
designated sections of the school and be
directed to their classes from there.
SK students will gather in the Kindergarten
Yard.
Students in Grades 1, 2, 3 will gather in the
NORTH PRIMARY YARD (near Port-a-Pak
doors).
Students in grades 4, 5, 6 will gather in the
WEST yard near the Day Care fence.
Students in grades 7 and 8 will gather in the
WEST yard near the Basketball hoops on the
posts.
COMBINED CLASSES
Combined grades are a necessary reality at
many of the schools in Ontario. As teachers
prepare class lists they consider many factors,
such as the learning styles of students, a
balance of abilities and class culture. Being in a
combined grade is in no way prejudicial to a
child’s education. Within Ontario all schools are
bound by a strict teacher pupil ratio. This will be
particularly evident as we strive to meet the hard
20:1 cap in the primary grades and the
guidelines of 25:1 in grades four to eight.
FAREWELL
TRANSPORTATION
A number of staff will be leaving Pauline Vanier.
They will be greatly missed. We thank them for
their excellent work and wish them well.
Federico Cataldo, FSL teacher, will be teaching
at St. Anthony’s School in September.
Michelle Nichols, grade 2/3 teacher, will be
teaching at Our Lady of Fatima School in
September.
Tony Gutt, grade 5/6, Corrie Tersigni grade ½
and 6, and Amanda Tac, SERC and Music, have
completed long term teaching assignments. We
wish them well and hope they return real soon to
Pauline Vanier Catholic School.
Information regarding busing for September
2010 will be posted on the front doors of the
school during the last week of August. Only
students eligible for busing may ride the bus.
Due to transportation changes each year,
courtesy seat assignments (previously called
empty seat) must be renewed (even if you had
approval this year) with a letter to the Principal.
Permission to ride cannot be granted until mid to
late October 2010, when it is confirmed that
eligible riders all have a seat and there is space
on the bus.
TEXTBOOKS/LIBRARY BOOKS
School textbooks and library books are school
property and are loaned to the students
annually. The expectation is that textbooks and
library books are returned at the end of the
school year. Students are responsible for these
books and will be asked to pay if these books
are missing or have been vandalized.
LOST AND FOUND
Many items have accumulated in our school.
Parents are welcome to visit the school to check
for materials belonging to their children. They
are in the Lost & Found box just outside the
library. Any items in the Lost and Found not
claimed by June 30th will be donated to charity.
CATHOLIC RATEPAYERS –
Check your Tax Bill
If you are a Catholic ratepayer, we urge you to
check your property tax bill to ensure that your
support is directed to your local Catholic School
Board, in our case, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic
District School Board. If you are a tenant, you
can verify your support by contacting our
Admissions Department at (905) 890-0708, ext
24511, 24512 or 24519, or your local municipal
office. By ensuring that you are accurately
recorded as a Catholic school supporter, you
can help deliver a powerful message to the
government about the level of support for
publically-funded Catholic education in Ontario.
In order to vote for your local Catholic School
Board Trustee, you must be registered as a
separate school supporter.

creating the Game Centres and collecting prizes
