NEWSLETTER #3
ADVENT OF HOPE
Gracious and merciful
God of all creation,
during this season of hope,
we remember how you sent your Son
to be a beacon of goodness and light
in the world.
Give us eyes of hope
to see the good in everything
and everyone around us.
Give us the grace and strength
to be beacons of hope and light
for all who enter this school.
May the virtue of hope
guide our decisions
for the service of all your people.
We ask this in the name of
Jesus, your Son,
who lived to show us your way.
Amen.
December 2009
This month, we celebrate the virtue of hope.
God has given us this Advent season, year
after year, in order to focus our minds and
our hearts on the good all around us.
We are reminded that God chose to send
his Son to us because we are worth it. God
knows how great we can be when we all
come together.
When we look at the world through the eyes
of God we see it becoming more and more
like the reign of God that Jesus describes.
People of Hope …
 keep up a positive attitude
 can bounce back from tough
situations
 set and stick to their goals
 see the good in others even
when they make mistakes
 work to include others
 let others know that they are
good people
Let us pray for the grace and courage to be
people of hope – people who can see,
participate in, and contribute to God’s
goodness emerging around us.
CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX GIFT
CHRISTMAS SING-A-LONG
Thank you to all the students and families who
generously donated a Christmas shoe box filled
with wonderful items and lots of love for a child
in a developing country.
Our choir members will be visiting The Holland
Christian Homes on Tuesday, December 15th to
share good cheer and Christmas blessings with
our seniors. Applause to S. Muzzatti, T. Berry,
T. Gutt, and the choir for sharing their gift of
music.
The Youth Faith Ambassadors, parents, and
staff will deliver these Christmas shoe boxes to
Dr. Simone’s warehouse on Wednesday,
December 16th. Dr. Simone runs “The Canadian
Food for Children” and will ensure the boxes are
delivered to children in poor villages.

Tree in the front hallway. These new items will
be delivered on Friday, December 18th to The
St. Vincent de Paul Society for distribution to

SCHOOL ADVENT MASS
Thank you to the students and teachers in the
Primary Division for preparing the prayerful
School Advent Mass. The choir was amazing! It
was great to see some parents and younger
siblings join us. Thank you to Father Jan for
celebrating this Mass and helping us to prepare
our hearts for Jesus at Christmas
LITERACY THROUGH DRAMA
On Tuesday, December 8th, all students
participated in the “Literacy Through Drama”
Presentations that took place in each of their
classrooms.
Students
explored
various
techniques to actively engage and share their
understanding of Literacy. Drama is a great
learning tool especially with students who are
kinesthetic learners.
Staff also participated in an after-school
workshop to improve their targeted use of drama
for differentiated instruction.
CANDY GRAMS
Our Youth Faith Ambassadors will be preparing
and distributing candy grams to the students on
December 15, 16, and 17. All proceeds will go

a slipping hazard for all students in the
classroom.
For safety reasons, only students wearing snow
boots will be permitted out in the field.
SNOW SAFETY FOR ALL STUDENTS
Students have been reminded and will be
reminded each day that SNOW STAYS ON THE
GROUND. Every student in the school has been
made aware of the importance of this rule in
preventing injury to others.
Students are
encouraged to constructively use the snow to
build snowmen, forts, and snow sculptures.
Kicking snow, sliding on any hills created by
snow ploughs, and sliding on ice are also
prohibited. Although it may seem like a fun
activity, our experience has shown that serious
accidents can and do occur.
Please assist us by reviewing with your child,
the dangers of throwing snowballs and the
importance of preventing injury to other children.
Together, we can create a school yard which is
safe for all children.
