P.I. E. CONTEST RESULTS In 2013-14 the newly formed Pauline Vanier Catholic School Council Parent Engagement Committee (P.E.C.) started a "monthly" contest. The goal of the P.E.C. is promote parent involvement in our children's education. We also want to create a strong sense of community among Pauline Vanier Parents. Forms filled out and returned to the school are entered into a draw to win a pie (on behalf of the Ministry of Education Parent Involvement Fund) for the winner to bring home to their family! Here are the results of our contests: February 2014: For this challenge we asked parents to share books/websites/games/apps and/or activities that they feel are great resources for either parents or children. Joel B. (Mrs. Mayer's class) was the winner of a pie this month. Here are the results from 9 replies. We're hoping to build on this list in the future. Feel free to email your ideas or feedback to PaulineVanierSchoolCouncil@gmail.com. A guide to daily happiness for kids" by Carol McCloud This is a fabulous, uplifting book for both kids and adults! "The Happiness Project" by Gretchin Rubin I really liked this book and recommend it because it was really valuable in pointing out how easy it is to lose focus on how lucky we are in life and how little shifts in our mind set and our daily activities can make us happier people which then translates into making those around us happier as well. "The Beginners Bible: Timeless Children's" by Kelly Pulley I like this book because I think it is a cute way for children to understand and know God's creation. December 2013: For this month's challenge we asked parents to identify from a list of activities which they thought they would be likely to attend if the parent engagement committee were to arrange it. We also asked that parents identify any barriers they may felt would keep them from participating in school activities. Out of 23 replies the results indicated that almost 1/2 of the parents that replied could not attend day time events, while 2 of 23 couldn't attend evening or weekend events. In addition, no language or transportation barriers were identified and all parents indicated that they have access to the internet at home. Winner of the contest was Joshua B. (Mrs. Nichols' class)!
