"What are you hearing around campus?"- it was noted that 140 staffhave already completed the
survey; that a couple staff indicated that they thought the staffsurvey was a good idea; a response to the
Faculty presentation was that it focused on the positive nature of the survey I discussion afterwards.

Unfinished Business:
A. Higher Education- Legal Alert Newsletters- Chris Engle- distribute newsletter collection that is
oriented toward 4-year colleges for the most part; addresses students suing colleges, student code of
conduct issues, etc.
B. College I Student Success Courses- Chris Engle I Brian Ivory- Chris had a student worker do a
review of all MI Community Colleges regarding courses students can take their first year toward
being successful in college; review shows many colleges have courses similar to those offered at
Mott; could draw from course descriptions in the future for ideas for project team; Chris has
colleague at GRCC who teaches a first year course; Toledo has a course where all incoming student
who receive student support services must complete a course designed to help them "navigate" the
college.

C. Roll-over of Current Project Description- Steve Robinson- Steve mentioned he will need fo revise
or roll-over the active Action Project descriptions ofall teams at the college on December 15, 2010.
Steve noted the committee was moving away from the title, "non-academic readiness. "Brian
mentioned he and Robert used the ori~inal terminology ("Cultural/ Behavioral Readiness 'j in our \
faculty presentation on November 23'"'. Steve noted that he would contact Brian and Robert with ~
changes for their input prior to sending on to the Higher Learning Commission.

E. Discussion of Faculty Survey I Comments- MMC students fall under two Codes of Conduct;
Cosmetology students consist of over 50% of the student behavioral concerns brought to Registrar I
Dean of Students, and it was noted their learning environment and academic standards are different
for these students than most at MCC; it was noted that Chris I Troy don 't "do a talking to" with
students referred by a professor and that Chris I Troy have to inform faculty of the differences
between "disruptive classroom behavior" and behavior the professor simply does not like.

New Business
A. Staff Survey on Campus Civility - Lori Hancock - the survey amounted to 29 questions overall with
the "severity" and "frequency" reversed from the Faculty survey; it was noted that over 140
responses have come in thus far including many qualitative responses many which echo those in the
written comments on the Faculty surveys.
It was noted that an area of concern that will likely emerge from the StaffI Student surveys is
Financial Services; in more recent times, however, students have been expected to behave properly
or the Registrar/Dean of Students will intervene.
B. Student Survey on Campus Civility- Lori Hancock- the survey amounted to 27 questions that
mirrored to a degree the questions on the Faculty survey; it was noted that over 300 responses have

The qualitative responses will be reviewed by Sherry, Chris: Liz, Brian and Lori at a meeting set for
Wednesday, January 12 from 12-2pm in CM 1117P; Lori will distribute the full texts of the
qualitative responses for both surveys before we break for the holidays; Steve offered assistance with
affinity mapping, index cards, wall putty, etc. but will need a couple days notice if his assistance is
needed; goal is to have this data reviewed, categories named and organized for the Jan 19'h meeting.

It was also discussed as to locations I occasions in which the student and/or staffsurvey results
could be presented. Ideas: (a) at a President's forum (Steve will check on this), (b) to a group of
student leaders in Student Life, and (c) a table display in the fishbowl area of the Bistro with results
and a comment board I cards students can write on as they walk by.
