ITEM Opening Prayer - Brian Student Update Presentation YSAP Garage Sale Principal Report INFORMATION - led us in prayer - Thanked everyone for the contributions to the Thanksgiving food drive - Ms Caldarelli presented the student report - Conducted recycling raffle at lunch – prizes for bringing in reusable containers, promote litter less lunches - Christmas dance being planned – Christmas Snowball - Youth Substance Abuse Program - Ministry of Health and YMCA - Mississauga Office at Square One - Counselling and outreach individually and to schools and agencies - Free service, ages 14 to 24 - Harm reduction approach – non judgemental - 5 categories of substances – depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, opiates, other psycho actives – different effects - Use – Miss use –Abuse - Addiction - stages of change –progress to change - symptoms of Substance use/abuse - examples of substances, alcohol, marijuana, hallucinogens, cocaine, - communication – respect, consistency, collaboration, listen, trust, honesty, patience, encouragement, unbiased - speak to your kids about drugs - Approximately 400$ was made despite weather - Event was a success and will likely be done again - - Community Event coming up in November – Doren Lawson o Speak-Up Grant – no cost to parents - need volunteers o Expecting 80-100 people - certified family councilor o Open to whole community – spread the word Graduation commencement planning o Committee is being established o looking at appropriate awards, program o new staff to get involved, parents can be involved o Co Chair Report Alex M Staff Report - Ms. Caldarelli Financial Report – Kelly Parish Update – notes from Connie want to save money, looking for a venue that is affordable o St Dominic’s Church has offered their location o Looking for some updates to the format, ideas, additional presentations, captive audience is an opportunity to showcase skills and students - Yearbook issues will be addressed – mistakes, missing pages - School uniforms – kilts and burgundy is gone, compliance is good o Consider a committee to discuss further - Specialist High Skills Major – new offering next year- NonProfits - Library renovation – Chapters/Indigo inspired design, coffee o computer stations, lamps o give the students a welcoming place, a social hub - General update – things are going well, teams are up – - Football event - next Friday night o football under the lights o Terry Fox Community Centre field - Grade 11/12 Trip – France 10 days, 3200$ o March Break, o may do it in June to allow a longer payment schedule. No report - reminder parent teacher interview night tomorrow grade 9s and some other students get progress reports concerns from parents that didn’t receive a progress report o Mr. Schmidt will remind teachers Mid-term report cards with marks, later in November $1,100.33 balance received 400$ from the garage sale government grant is expected 500$ - to purchase a laminator Thank you for the generosity on behalf of St Vincent de Paul and Caring and Sharing 5 week discussion series began Oct 5th – “What is the Point of Being Christian?” Oktoberfest Dinner – Oct 23 at 6:30 hosted by K of C – tickets 15$ St Dominic Youth Group – meets Fridays at 7pm Coffee house held in Sept was a lot of fun – next one on Nov 20 at 6:30 Halloween Tea Party on Oct 30/31 – baked goods, tea after service Resettlement Committee – St Dominic’s 30th year Christmas Bazaar Nov 6th 9am – 2pm - Christmas and New Year – Fr.
