This year the committee worked with Dr. Jed Lyons, Director, Center for Teaching Excellence
(CTE), to determine ways in which the FCID can fulfill their role as advisory committee to the
CTE and support their initiatives. The committee provided feedback on programs and events
offered by the CTE and reviewed the annual Blueprint for Service Excellence that the CTE
submits to the Provost’s Office. In addition, a subcommittee was organized to assist Dr. Lyons
in developing a survey tool to assess faculty needs in the area of instructional development. The
results of this survey will assist the CTE in determining appropriate programs to offer in the
coming year and will help FCID determine what topics are worth investigating as a committee.
The survey was administered by the CTE in Spring semester 2009. After the data is analyzed the
CTE staff will report to the FCID the areas in which faculty face greatest challenges in teaching.
Further studies may be initiated by the FCID committee based on these results.

Peer Teaching Evaluations
A subcommittee was formed to explore the topic of best practices for peer teaching evaluations.
The subcommittee is compiling a bibliography to be made available on the CTE website and
possibly distributed to Tenure and Promotion Committee chairs.
Classroom Enhancement
A member of the FCID committee worked with Nancy Hart, University Technology Services, on
the Classroom Enhancement Project working group. This group presented a list of
recommendations for selected classroom renovations in 2009 and the FCID committee approved
the recommendations.
Bradley Smith was elected as committee chair for 2009-2010.
Respectfully submitted,
Rebecca Gettys, Chair
