Advent Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Master of both light and darkness, send your Holy Spirit
upon our preparation for Christmas.
We who have so much do seek quiet spaces to hear your
voice each day.
We who are anxious over so many things look forward to
your coming among us.
We, who are blessed in so many ways long for the
complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.
We are your people, walking in the darkness, yet seeking
the light, to you we say,
“Come Lord, Jesus!”
AMEN
Virtue of November – Conscience …..
During the month of November we will be celebrating
the virtue of conscience. God has given us the ability
to know the right and decent way to act and then to
act that way. We trust that the common Spirit we
share inspires us and guides us to make good
decisions if we allow our conscience to be wellformed.
A person of conscience allows prayer and scripture to
influence him/her.
A person of conscience …
 Chooses to do the “right thing” and feels
good about it
 Can see how his/her actions may hurt others
 Admits his/her wrong-doing and feels badly
 Says ‘sorry’ and tries to make up for mistakes
 Keeps promises
Virtue of December – HOPE …..
In the month of December, we will celebrate the
virtue of HOPE.
We believe that God comes to us as a real human
who can show us the way of life.
We understand that both the world and its people
are from God and so are essentially good.
Furthermore, God has given us this Advent
season year after year in order to focus our minds
and our hearts on the good all around us.
Year after year, we are reminded that God chose
to send his Son to us because we are worth it. God
knows how great we can be when we all come
together.
When we look at the world through the eyes of
God we see it becoming more and more like the
reign of God that Jesus describes.
People of Hope…
 Keep up a positive attitude
 Can bounce back from tough situations
 Set and stick to their goals
 See the good in others even when they
make mistakes
 Work to include others
 Let others know that they are good people
School Council Wednesday
Pizza…
Pizza Days will be offered every
Wednesday for students. The
money raised will be going back into the school.
The students will be offered a slice of cheese pizza
and it will cost $1.50 per slice.
The money will be collected every Wednesday
morning or preordered ahead of time.
Please bring your own snacks and drinks.
Student Absence and Late…
We strongly encourage parents/guardians to
please call the school if your child is going to be
absent or late. You may phone the school at any time
and leave a message. Be sure to state your child’s
name and teacher’s name. The school phone number
is 905-451-1020 and press # 0 for the attendance line.
Students arriving to school late is becoming a
growing concern in the morning. Some mornings the
office handles between 10 – 20 students late to school.
This creates interruptions and distractions in the class
that interfere with other students learning. Please
plan to arrive at the school between 8:15 and 8:30 to
avoid being late. When students are late they will
need to go to the office for a late slip before entering
their classroom.
Security at St. Mary Catholic School…
A reminder that all visitors INCLUDING PARENTS
must come to the office, and sign in every time they
need to come into the building during the day.
Visitors need to sign out when they are finished as
well.
If you are picking up your child at school at a time
other than regular dismissal, we ask that you report to
the office. Arrangements will be made for your child
to be sent to the office. If you intend to send someone
else to pick up your children, please inform the office.
We thank you for your cooperation in supporting a
safe environment at St. Mary Catholic School.
Volunteer Police Checks….
We as a staff greatly appreciate the efforts of our
parent/guardian volunteers. These individuals enable
us to enrich the curriculum for our students. Board
policy requires that all volunteers must produce a
police check to the principal of the school. These
forms are available in the school’s office. We ask that
you complete the form and take it to the local police
station with two pieces of identification (one with a
photo).
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this
process please feel free to contact the school.
Driveway Safety…
The Front Driveway… Your assistance is
required in helping to use the bus loading zone
located closest to our school. Please respect our drivein drop off points. Students and parents are reminded
to follow our already established procedure for
dropping off. Please share the above information
with family members or care givers who may be
picking up or dropping off your child. As a reminder,
we do not have a kiss and ride because we have a
parking lot that children walk through to get into
school. Please remember to PARK your car in the
designated areas. Thank you in ensuring the safety of
your child as well as all students at St. Mary Catholic
School.
Bus Transportation…
Transportation for all Peel Region
schools is under the direction of
Student Transportation of Peel
Region (STOPR). Should you
have any questions and/or concern
regarding school busing, please visit www.stopr.ca or
call (905) 890-6000.
