The boys’ were able to place second at this event which allowed them to advance to the MBC Family Tournament at St. Augustine. On Nov. 28th at the Family Tournament, the boys’ had a strong showing before losing a close semifinal match against St. Julia. Congratulations to the following team members on a great season: Ethan B., Keagan C., Domenyk D., Junior G., Leandre G., Ethan H., Kyle H., Shamar L., Jesse O., Timothy P. and Christian R. The team was comprised of mostly Grade 5 students, so we look forward to having the majority of the boys’ back next season and seeing some of the Grade 6’s move on to the Intermediate Team! Thank you to Mr. Mullen and Mr. Kelly for coaching. People of Hope… The Year of Faith started on Thursday, October 11th to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th Anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We respect everyone; Due to a strong showing throughout their season, the St. Kevin’s Intermediate Boys’ Volleyball Team were invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Cardinal Ambrozic Tournament on Nov. 22nd. After a six team round robin, St. Kevin finished second and thus qualified for the championship game against St. Josephine Bakhita. The boys’ started off strong by winning the first set, however they were unable to hold off a very strong comeback from Bakhita and lost in a heart-breaking three set match. The boys’ were exemplary representatives of St. Kevin’s throughout the year, they won their mini tournament and received silver medals at the MBC Family and Cardinal Ambrozic Tournament. Good luck to the Grade 8 boys’ moving on to high school and we look forward to having the majority of the team back for next season. Special thanks to coaches Ms. Del-Re and Mrs. Hibbitt. With the arrival of colder, winter weather we ask that you ensure that your child is dressed appropriately. It is our Board’s policy that all students go out for recesses. We cannot accommodate parent requests, due to staffing, supervision and facility restrictions. If your child is not well enough to go outside, they should not be at school, as this could run the risk of others getting sick. Serious medical concerns must be accompanied with a medical note. It is our Board’s policy to keep the children indoors once the wind chill factor reaches –25°C, as established by Environment Canada. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Homework Tips — Establish a routine. St. Kevin Art Club Consistency is a vital element in the learning process, especially for a child who needs structure. A homework schedule that includes a set time and space for completing homework reinforces the value of homework and becomes part of a regular routine. The St. Kevin Art Club will be holding an art exhibit on Friday, December 14th from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in our library. All are welcome to come and see their works of art on display. Parents/Guardians should bring the following documents when registering their child: proof of age original Catholic Baptismal Certificate of the Roman, Greek or Ukrainian Rite, for parent (one) and child (if the child has not been baptized, a letter of counseling with the parish priest, to complete the process will be accepted) updated immunization records proof of Canadian citizenship or of Landed Immigrant status proof of address (utility bill, bank or credit card statement) for schools in Caledon and Dufferin County: emergency rural address numbers for identifying your property Bus Cancellations St. Kevin school buses are only cancelled when it is announced that “All Dufferin-Peel and Peel District Board Buses are Cancelled”. Often during the winter, buses are cancelled in the Town of Caledon and the County of Dufferin. This does not affect our buses. Our buses are still running when these buses, north of the city of Brampton, are cancelled. Also, parents please note, if the buses are cancelled in the morning there will be no buses in the afternoon. If the buses bring students in to school in the morning, buses will take them home in the afternoon. Attendance Verification Intermediate Boys’ Volleyball Because the United Legislature of Canada East and Canada West roughly had consisted of members advocating nondenominational common schools and half were in favour of them, separate school legislation, for about fifteen years, contained three obstacles to their existence: separate school; (b) The separate school had no permanence of existence. the early years; c) In the cities the separate school board required the permission of the common school board to open a new or an additional separate school. Sometimes the permission was not forthcoming. (d) The legislation required twelve Catholic heads of family reside within a city, town or township common resident Catholic families.
