Kazimowicz Trustee Peter Ferreira Peter.ferreira@dpcdsb.org Dear God, You have done such a marvelous job of creating us and the world around us. You have placed this creation, including all the people we meet, in our care. We come to you now asking for the grace and strength to be accepting of others. We admit that we can never fully know your plan for the people around us. Grant us the strength to admit that our role is to invite others to participate in your saving plan and then to accept the choices that they make in their own lives. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our brother, who lived to show us your way. Parish St. Joseph Church 5440 Durie Road 905-826-2766 Pastor Fr. Marc-Andre Campbell Fr. Mounir El-Rassi Fr. Father Marc Andre and his pastoral team have been working with our teachers to prepare for this sacrament. Our students enjoyed a retreat day at the parish and were given beautiful wooden crosses from the parish and a beautiful prayer card from our School Council on behalf of our school community. We would also like to recognize and extend congratulations to students who have received or are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at other parishes within our Faith community. Please keep these students in your prayers. On Tuesday, May 3, 2011, a Welcome to Kindergarten presentation was given to parents and children who will be attending Junior Kindergarten in September, 2011. After a presentation to parents, the children and parents participated in different activity centers. Upon completion of the presentation and centers, each child received a bag filled with wonderful materials, i.e. books, paper, play dough, scissors, letters and numbers. These materials will be an excellent preparation for the children and their parents prior to Kindergarten. The evening was well attended. Welcome to Kindergarten is sponsored by the „Learning Partnership‟ and is supported by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION KINDERGARTEN RECESS On Wednesday, May 25, 2011, the children will be painting and decorating a cross in preparation of their first Holy Communion. A special thank you to School Council for subsidizing the cost of the crosses. The First Communion Retreat day will be on June 2, 2011. The children will be participating in a variety of activities that contribute to the education of Communion. It will be a meaningful day for the students. The Senior Kindergarten students will be going out for recess starting on Tuesday, June 14th, 2011. This will help them prepare for grade one. We appreciate our older students making them feel welcome as the big yard can be quite overwhelming for the little ones. REPORT CARDS Report Cards will be distributed to the students on Tuesday, June 28th, 2011. Reports not distributed to students due to absence will be mailed to your home. EQAO Our Grade three and Grade 6 students will be participating in the Provincial EQAO Assessments during the weeks of May 30th – June 10th, 2011. It is very important that your child be present at this tine. The Grade 6 classes will be writing EQAO June 1, 2, and 3. The Grade 3 classes will be writing EQAO on June 6, 7 and 8. BOOK FAIR St. Julia welcomed the Scholastic Book Fair during Catholic Education Week. Students had a chance to browse and shop. They went away excited about their new purchases, ready to snuggle up with a good book or two. Thank you to all those who supported the Fair, it was a great success! REPTILLIA Students in grades 4,6,7 & 8 had an opportunity on May 5 th, 2011 to learn more about the environment, habitats and how humans affect our world when guest speaker Blair and some of his “friends” came to St. Julia, from Reptillia located in Vaughan. Students were equally delighted and repulsed by our reptile visitors, and many overcame their squeamish instincts to touch and interact with the friendly beasts. Ms. DeVellis Carino even found a new friend in the final visitor of an 8 Foot long reticulated python! WATER BOTTLES As the warmer weather approaches students may require more access to water. Students are permitted to bring full water bottles to school. However, for safety reasons they will not be allowed to refill them during the day. Students are permitted to have them on their desks but are to be used under the direction of the classroom teacher. We have found in the past that at times students use these for water fights in the playground. During recesses students will continue to receive a pass so they can come into the school for water. Your understanding is greatly appreciated. PLAY STRUCTURE Our play structure has been inspected and approved for use for the new season. We have a schedule at school for student use in order to limit the number of students using the play structure at once. Parents are responsible for supervising children using the equipment after school hours. MOVING Just a reminder…if you are moving before the end of the year or over the summer please inform the school office as soon as possible so that the class lists may accurately reflect the number of students enrolled. Also, if new neighbors have moved in it would be appreciated if you could let them know that we are accepting registrations for next September and that they are welcome to drop by the office for a registration package. When moving to a new school transfer papers from your current school are needed. The office requires a few days to process these requests.
