Gracious and merciful God of all creation,
During this season of remembrance,
we remember how you have gifted
us with free will
You have given us the virtue of conscience
to ensure that we will know the good
and decent way to act and then choose to act that way.
We come to you now asking for the grace and strength to
form and to follow our conscience in order to bring to life your plan
for a safe, caring, inclusive community here at St. Julia.
May your virtue of conscience free us to make decisions
that serve the good of all your people.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son, who lived to show us
your way
Amen

JUNIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Junior Girls Volleyball team met at the Pod Tournament on October
17. They demonstrated excellent sportsmanship by never losing hope
and cheering each other on! Their dedication and teamwork were
exceptional! Congratulations girls! Kayla H., Abigail R., Maya J., Amanda T.,
Kaitlyn G., Alicia R., Natalie F., and Vanessa B.
INTERMEDIATE BOYS SOCCER
Last month, the Intermediate Boys soccer team played in our family of schools
soccer tournament. Our team consisted of boys from grades six, seven and
eight and although the grade eights were unable to join us, the grade six's and
seven's definitely held their own and fought until the end against all teams. The
boys positive attitudes, hard work and determination carried them to the
playoffs where they fell just short of a couple goals to move on. They played
an outstanding tournament and coaches Mlle. Hewitt and Ms. Stypka are very
proud of them!
INTERMEDIATE GIRLS SOCCER
The intermediate girls soccer team participated in the MBC tournament and
showed great team work and skill. Throughout the tournament only 2 goals
were scored against us while we scored many goals. The girls made it to the
third round of the playoffs where they lost 1-0 in a very close back and forth
game to St. Gregory. At the end of the day our girls finished 3rd overall in the
standings but 1st overall in fair play and determination. Mr. Morrice and Mr.
Monahan would like to thank Erica S., Stephanie S., Laura D., Amalia K.,
Amilia L., Victoria, P., Elyza S., Nicole T., Zoe O,. Pasqale A., Suzana A.,
Christie L., Julia N., Vanessa B., B., Kathy L, & Natalie F.
INTEMEDIATE BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Congratulations to the Intermediate Boys Volleyball team for a terrific
season. Joshua D., Thomas K., Martin I., Martin G., Eric P., Nicholas
M., and Matteo P. The boys showed tremendous dedication giving up
many of their lunches to practice and hone their volleyball skills. This
was evident by their great season record of 3 and 1. Unfortunately it
came down to the wire in the end but regardless, your coaches; Mlle.
Hewitt, Mrs. Laratta, and Mrs. Galasso are very proud of the effort
exemplified on the court. You represented the spirit of St. Julia well!
CROSS COUNTRY

their efforts. Great work everyone!!
If your child is part of a single parent family, a blended family, has experienced the death of a loved family member, friend or sibling, or is struggling
through a painful experience, this will be an opportunity for him/her to share
their feelings with peers that may also be going though similar changes.
Rainbows will begin on November 7, 2013.
WALKING WEDNESDAYS
Once again we are trying to do our best for the environment here at St. Julia.
Every Wednesday we encourage the students to make arrangements to walk
safely to school. It is a fun, healthy activity for the children and helps them to
be aware that every little bit helps. Even walking once a week instead of being
driven does cut down on exhaust fumes. Some bus students may even be able
to walk on these days. If you can arrange it we applaud your effort! Walkers
will receive a hand stamp at the front of the school to acknowledge their participation and each class with participants reports their results. The class with
the best participation will have their achievement acknowledged on the announcements and their name displayed on the "Golden Shoe of Midas" for the
next week. So find some friends to walk with and shuffle off to school on
Wednesdays!!
P.A.L.S.
The students of St. Julia school have trained and continue to prepare for their
leadership role in our PALS program.
P.A.L.S. (Playground Activity Leadership in Schools) is a schoolyard program geared to help younger children learn co-operative games and strategies
in order to interact appropriately during lunch recess. Our student leaders
have chosen to become mentors to the younger children and teach them age
appropriate games in order to achieve successful daily play. They are enthusiastic and eager to get started... WAY TO GO P.A.L.S.!!
CURRICULUM CORNER
St Julia is committed to the principles of 21st century learning. We continue to acquire technology for use in each of our classrooms, and, by
the end of October St Julia will have computer access, data projectors
and document cameras in each classroom in the school. Leading the
charge towards innovative teaching have been our grade 2 teachers, who
have developed a blog which they maintain and update regularly. When
you get a moment, please check out their fine work at:
http://stjuliagrade2.blogspot.ca/
or just type St Julia Grade 2 blog into your browser.

Blaze Maple hybrids, and this year we have added three more
large trees and ampa-seating for 30 students. The students at St.
Julia are very excited to have a quiet, shady place to read, write,
draw or chat with friends. We look forward to the upcoming
school years as the the trees mature and develop a beautiful
wooded grove.
BLAST OUT BULLYING
We would like to
remind parents of the need
to have a network of
support to care for children
especially in case of
midday illness. Peel Health repeatedly recommends that the best practice to prevent the spread
of viruses is:
 wash hands with soap and water thoroughly and often
 to cough or sneeze into a sleeve or tissue
 stay home if you are sick
When children become sick during the course of the school
day, a plan needs to be in place to care for him/her. As with
all medical issues, we continue to take direction from Peel
Health on how to best respond to community illness.
This year we hope to BLAST out bullying at St. Julia! The
BLAST Anti-bullying Committee will be fully implemented
this year. Grade 6, 7 and 8 students will have the opportunity
to develop leadership skills and to contribute to maintaining a
positive school climate at St Julia. Students will be involved
in developing anti-bullying initiatives throughout the year, as
well as offer activities and presentations to their peers.
Through the BLAST program students will have a chance to
empower themselves and others by building confidence and
decreasing conflicts in the school. A special thank you to all
Grade 6, 7 and 8 students who are dedicating their time, skills
and efforts to lead their peers towards a more proactive role
against bullying and making St. Julia a safe and positive
environment for all students.
