God of power and might,
Be your holy will you raised
Jesus from the dead so that we
Might share his life eternally. As
We rejoice and give you thanks
For your great goodness and
Mercy, help us to reach out to
Those who do not yet believe in
The truth of the gospel. Fill us
With your compassion so that
With loving hearts we may serve
The weak and needy for love of
You. Strengthen the faith of our
Families so that we may grow
Together in love. May your joy
Grow in us day by day.
AMEN
Teaching Children the Virtue of Kindness
During the month of March, we celebrate the virtue of “KINDNESS”. God has given us
the gifts of friends and companions to keep us company and to help us get along.
Every person in our lives carries the Spirit of God and so every person is our brother
and sister through Jesus Christ. As brothers and sisters who share one Holy Spirit, we
are all valuable to God. We all deserve to be shown concern for our welfare and our
feelings. We have all been given the Spirit called kindness. Kindness can only be seen
through actions. It’s not enough to say I will be kind or I am kind. We must show that
we are kind by our words and our actions.
A Kind person:
 Says nice things about others so they feel good about themselves
 Sticks up for people who are picked on or need help
 Refuses to join others who are insulting, intimidating, mean or harmful

Watches and looks for ways to help those in need

SCHOOL UPDATES
ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY DAY
Monday, April 11, 2016
Terms of the recent contract settlement between the teacher
federations and the Ministry of Education included the provision
of an additional Professional Activity Day for the 2015-2016
school year for both elementary and secondary schools. Recently,
boards were directed to schedule this additional Professional
Development Day on or before April 15, 2016.
In the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, the
designated additional Professional Activity Day has been
scheduled for Monday, APRIL 11, 2016. Therefore, there will be
no classes for either elementary or secondary students on
Monday, April 11, 2016.
CRIMINAL REFERENCE CHECKS/ DECLARATION FORMS
In keeping with the Safe Schools Act, all volunteers including
those going on one day school trips MUST have a current Criminal
Reference Check on file at the office. If you have the time or
inclination to be a volunteer, assist with school trips, drive for
sports events, assist with our fundraiser(s), be an active member
of school council-dealing with children in any capacity, please
contact the office for a criminal reference check form, for the
2016-2017 school year. The Criminal Reference Check is free for
volunteers, and it will assure the safety of all students at St. Lucy
Catholic School. If you already have a Criminal Reference Check
on file at the school, please complete the Annual Offence
Declaration form. Please have your check or declaration
completed so you can continue to be an important and valued
member at our school. It is our hope that you can complete these
forms and return them to the school prior to the end of August so
that you can participate in school activities beginning in
September 2016. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in
this matter.
EQAO DATES
The
EQAO
Assessment will be
occurring between
May 25 - June 8,
2016. Grade 3 and
6 students are
preparing diligently for this assessment. It is very
important that all students are present at school during
this time. Please avoid making any appointments during
these dates. More information will follow.
IMMUNIZATION RECORDS – REGION OF PEEL
The Region of Peel will be mailing out a second letter to
students who do not have their immunization up to date.
Peel Public Health monitors the immunization records of
all students to ensure that they are in compliance and
able to attend school. Students found with incomplete
immunization records will be suspended.
INTERMEDIATE BALLROOM DANCING
We are pleased to announce that Future
Steps has been attending St. Lucy School,
teaching
ballroom
dancing
to
our
intermediate students. This Dance program
consists of eight weekly sessions taught by
Future Steps’ quality instructors. Children are taught
classic Ballroom and Latin dances in a simple step-by-step
manner. The Ballroom dance competition will be held on
March 3.
MOVING?
To help us with our planning for next
September, it would be appreciated if
you could let us know now if you will be
moving out of our school area over the summer. If you
know of any families moving into the area with children
who plan to attend St. Lucy, it would be helpful if you
could alert us.
The more information we have, the better we are able to
organize staff and students for September. In the absence
of accurate information, schools often have to reorganize
classes in September due to unexpected fluctuations in
population.
PARKING AND KISS N’RIDE
We ask that parents continue to use
and follow the Kiss N’ Ride procedures
that were established in the fall. The
Kiss N’ Ride can be a safe and effective
way of allowing children to enter and
leave the school grounds properly.
Also, please avoid making the illegal
left turn and moving the pylons. This area is closed off to protect
children walking and for the school buses to enter.
PEDS POLICY
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board acknowledges the
value of the use of technology for learning. Students are
permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs)
on board premises and/or board sanctioned events for
educational purposes, under the direction of staff and only with
parent/guardian permission. Students may register their PED for
the purpose of connecting to the board wireless network.
Students are required to adhere to the student “Personal
Electronic Device Used with WI-FI Network Student Agreement”
(GF 337) and the “Network User Application and Agreement.”
(GF066) Please be advised that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic
District School Board will not be responsible for any cost
incurred through the use of personal data plans.
PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with
learning; their use must comply with the Catholic Code of
Conduct, board policies and procedures.
Any personal
communications (i.e., phone calls, text messages, etc.) will
continue to be directed through the main office. Failure to
comply with these guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges
and/or any other consequences deemed necessary by school
administration.
The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of
personal electronic devices during school-sanctioned activities for
a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces
and/or in common areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at
all times and the Board assumes no responsibility for lost,
damaged or stolen devices.
PIZZA LUNCH
Pizza days are back on Tuesday throughout the
school year. Please bring a toonie on Tuesday if
you would like to buy a slice of pizza.
Scientists in School (SiS) enable Kindergarten to Grade 8
students to become 'scientists in their school', catalyzing
long-lasting interest in science, technology, math,
environmental stewardship and engineering. SiS provides
opportunities for young learners to interact with
ecologists, physicists, engineers opening their minds to
future careers in science-related fields and fostering
innovation. To further enhance curriculum programs,
students at St. Lucy will learn through highly investigative
classroom or community workshops throughout the
course of the year. Stay tuned for dates from your child’s
classroom teacher.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our next School Council meeting, is on
March 29, 2016. All meeting take place
commencing at 6:30 p.m. in the library
or conference room. Parents and guardians are always
welcomed.
THE GREAT GULP
The Great Gulp is an annual event held every March to
help create awareness about the importance of Peel
drinking water in our lives. St. Lucy will be participating in
The Great Gulp on Wednesday, March 23 with a
synchronized drink of tap water. The event, along with
additional tap water activities, creates a memorable
learning experience where students have the opportunity
to learn about tap water in Peel.
