ADVENT
The circle of this wreath will
remind us of the coming of Christ,
whose love for us has no end.
The light of these candles will
remind us of the coming of Christ,
who is the light of the world. The
green colour of these branches
will remind us of the coming of
Christ, who brings us eternal life.

This month we celebrate the virtue
of hope. We believe that God comes
to us a real human who can show us
the way of life.
Let us pray for the grace and
courage to be people of hope people who can see, participate in
and contribute to God’s goodness
emerging around us.
My friends, let us bless the Lord.
By day and by night, and through
every season, you watch over us,
Lord. We praise you for this
Advent wreath. It is the evergreen
crown of your people, and it
shines with the promise of victory.
By the light of this wreath we
shall wait in patience for your
Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. He
will comfort our fears and bring
hope to our waiting world. All
glory be yours, now and forever.
Amen

Kiss & Ride
Our ‘Kiss & Ride’ program
runs very smoothly thanks
to the many parents who
volunteer to open doors
and escort students to the
curb every day. However,
we need your help to
make the program safer
and more efficient.
*do not stop and drop
your children off at the
west end of the Kiss & Ride
lane. Drive right up to the
parents opening doors so
that traffic flows smoothly
and cars are not forced to
swerve around others.
This has led to significant
delays for others and to
many near collisions.
*do not allow your child to
exit on the left side of the
car.
Our neighbourhood police
have been ticketing empty
vehicles in the drop-off
lane and those parked in
the fire route. Tickets are
in excess of $100.00

well for SLR as the team placed first in their pool of
teams.
While waiting for the semi-finals to begin, Mother
Nature sent cool winds, and heavy and cold rain
drops. The rain did not let up, yet this tough and
determined soccer team defeated Pauline Vanier in
the semi-finals by a score of 4-0.
It was now the final game against St. Jean Brebeuf.
The game started and within 3 minutes of play SLR
was already leading the game by a score of 1-0.
Another goal was scored by SLR making it 2-0.
However, St. Jean Brebeuf did not stop fighting as
they managed to score not one but two quick goals.
They tied the game within seconds of it being over.
They pushed the game into penalty kicks. After three
sets of kicks, it was SLR who came up on top earning the gold medal!! Not only did the players receive
a gold medal but they have won a banner that will
hang in the gym for years! These 15 players had
amazing, crisp passes, fantastic kicks and throw ins,
and outstanding communication with one another
both on and off the field. The amount of talent and
skill that these young ladies and gentlemen have
could possibly be better than Cristiano Ronaldo,
Sebastian Giovinco, and Mario Balotelli.
Ms. Iannicca and Mrs. Mederios would like to
congratulate the members of the Intermediate Co
-Ed soccer team, Arason, Joy, Efe, Alexander,
Christopher, Vincent, Joseph C, Joseph R, Filip,
Wayde, Alexa, Gilian, Isabella, Veronika, and
Chiara.
Volunteers Needed For School Trips
Every volunteer for trips must have a completed Criminal Reference Check. If you are interested and available to assist with this
valuable experience, please see the office for a police check form, which must be signed by the principal before it is submitted to
Peel Police. There is no charge for volunteers for the school board. It can take up to 6 weeks to get a criminal reference check.
When your police check is completed, the classroom teacher will photocopy it and return the original to you. Your contribution
towards supervision and safety of the students is essential. There are adult to student ratios that must be met which varies from
each division. Thank you for your continued suppor t.
WINTER WEATHER
During the winter season, there are occasions that the students are kept in for indoor recess. It is generally accepted
that when the wind-chill factor is –25C, students do not go out for recess. We also practice modified recess for days
when temperature is between –20C and –24C. On these cold days, we consult regularly with the Weather Network.
Please ensure your child is coming to school prepared for the weather. Hats, gloves, scarves, boots are all essential.
Depending on the age of the child, snow pants are also an important item. Ensure items are labelled with your
child’s name on them. Indoor shoes must be kept at school. Wet boots are not permitted inside the classrooms, gym,
or library for safety reasons.
SNOW AND ICE
Now that the cold months have arrived and snow and ice are plentiful, a reminder of our safety policy is warranted.
Throwing snowballs and sliding on ice are not allowed. As much fun as snow and ice are, they can be very dangerous when there
are many people in one area. Most student injuries happen during the winter months. In order for our school to be as safe as possible, the school rule must be that snow stays on the ground—no snowballs, kicking snow or any other activity with snow or ice that
could be harmful. Students are reminded daily on morning announcement as well as in the classrooms. Please take a few moments
to reinforce these important safety rules with your children.
COLD AND FLU SEASON
Please use discretion in keeping your child home to recover if they are ill. A child who is coughing,
wheezing, etc. is not in a state to learn and will only infect others. If a student is sent to school, it is
assumed that they will participate in all aspects of the school day, including outdoor recess.
