THE VIRTUE OF EMPATHY
In the month of October, we celebrate the virtue of Empathy. Empathetic people are those
who can put themselves in another’s shoes. They demonstrate the capacity to feel what the
other person is feeling and recognize the depth of the emotions of others. Living the virtue of
Empathy allows us to recognize and affirm the dignity of one another and of ourselves.
As we work, live and play with one another this year, may we seek the strength of the Holy
Spirit to live the virtue of Empathy each day.
FRIENDLY REMINDERS:
FIRE DRILLS AND LOCKDOWN DRILLS
LATE ARRIVALS
It is important that your children arrive at
school on time. Late arrivals have a direct
impact on learning in school and they also
disrupt the classroom during lessons.
Your assistance is appreciated in supporting your child’s learning by reinforcing
that punctuality is an important responsibility that should be developed not only for
success in school, but later in life as well.
EMERGENCY INFORMATION
It is vital that we are able to contact you
during school hours, should an emergency
arise. We have on record telephone numbers for home, work and an emergency
contact person. In order to keep our records up-to-date, please ensure that the
office has updated information by returning the Student Verification Sheet provided
by the teacher earlier in the year.
INDOOR / OUTDOOR SHOES
All students should have a pair of indoor
shoes to wear at school in class and for
gym. Outdoor shoes/ boots will be kept
for outdoor use only.

We are in the process of reviewing with
students safe evacuation procedures in the
events of Fire or Lockdown. Drills occur
throughout the year—a number of 6 fire
drills and 2 lockdown drills must be practiced.
DISTRIBUTION OF MEDICATION
Please be advised that for safety reason, no
child should bring any form of medication to
school without prior approval from the
office. The school will store necessary medication if a Request Form has been filled out
and signed by the parent/guardian. Forms
are available in the office. Please note, the
school cannot administer medication to your
child with the exception of an Epi-Pen in the
instance of an anaphylactic reaction.
We are an Allergen-Aware School—please
ensure all snacks are PEANUT FREE!
VOLUNTEERS
Any individual who works as an employee of
the Board or volunteers to assist with our
programs (including trip supervision) MUST
have a Criminal Reference Check (CRC)
completed by the Peel Regional Police. For
volunteers, CRC are free of charge. Forms
are provided through the office.
TERRY FOX RUN/WALK UPDATE
This year, once again, San Lorenzo Ruiz students and staff
organized and participated in the annual Terry Fox
Run/Walk. We are very pleased to report that we raised
$3335.00 in donations brought in through the school. This
total does not include on-line donations, so we will update
the total amount when these numbers come in.
We thank you all for your support of this worthy cause.

New P.E.D. Policy
It is the policy of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board that students are
permitted to use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises and/or at
board sanctioned events for educational purposes in order to support learning,
under the direction of staff and only with parent/guardian permission by the use of
the Personal Electronic Device Used With WI-FI Network Student Agreement. Permission to use PED’s is dependent on signing and abiding by the Board’s PED / Wifi
user agreement. PED’s are not mandatory for in-class activities, and parents who
decline to participate will not incur any academic penalty for their child.

The Ministry of Education released the new Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline
in March 2015. This guideline sets expectations for all school boards on managing
and reviewing under-utilized school space, including potential school closures, and
for the greater coordination and sharing of planning related information between
school boards and other community partners. The guideline requires all school
boards in the province to develop or revise Pupil Accommodation Review Policies
and to invite public input into the policy before it is finalized.
A survey to collect feedback on the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Boards’
draft amended Policy 6.51 Pupil Accommodation Review will be available for review
and comment on the Board’s website at www.dpcdsb.org until 4:30 pm on Friday
October 16, 2015. Supporting documents will also be available for reference and
review.
