WHAT: Kindergarten Entry Planning for Children with Special Needs Parent Information Session WHEN: Thursday, Januray 8th, 2015 **snow date is Tuesday, January 13, 2015 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Kiss & Ride Our ‘Kiss & Ride’ program runs very smoothly thanks to the many parents who volunteer to open doors and escort students to the curb every day. However, we need your help to make the program safer and more efficient. Please do not stop and drop your children off at the west end of the Kiss & Ride lane. Drive right up to the parents opening doors so that traffic flows smoothly and cars are not forced to swerve around others. This has led to significant delays for others and to many near collisions. In addition, please do not allow your child to exit on the left side of the car. This puts them right in the drive-through lane which is very dangerous as other cars do not expect students to exit on that side. Our neighbourhood police have been ticketing empty vehicles in the dropoff lane and those parked in the fire route. Tickets are in excess of $100.00 EXTENDED FRENCH INFORMATION MEETING Grade 4 parent(s)/guardian(s) who wish to enroll their child in a Grade 5 Extended French class for September 2015 are invited to attend an information meeting at: San Lorenzo Ruiz School Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Thank You from Your New Vice Principal My name is Annalisa Sodhi. I am the new Acting Vice Principal at San Lorenzo Ruiz. I am very excited and honored to be here. This year I started my 20th year of teaching, with experience in French (core, immersion and extended), Special Education, and grades ranging from 1-8. I had a very brief opportunity to work at the board office as a Religion Consultant as well. Having been placed in this new position just after Thanksgiving was an unexpected surprise. But I could not have been asked to be placed in a more welcoming school, surrounded by great staff and incredibly respectful and hardworking students. The two nearest French Immersion Centres are: I am at the school every Monday and Tuesday, and every other Wednesday. I have met a number of parents already and look forward to meeting more of you throughout the year. St. Gertrude and St. Pio of Pietrelcina Annalisa Sodhi Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 7:00 pm. San Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic School Volunteers Needed For School Trips Every volunteer for trips must have a completed Criminal Reference Check. If you are interested and available to assist with this valuable experience, please see the office for a police check form, which must be signed by the principal before it is submitted to Peel Police. There is no charge for volunteers for the school board. It can take up to 6 weeks to get a criminal reference check. When your police check is completed, the classroom teacher will photocopy it and return the original to you. Your contribution towards supervision and safety of the students is essential. There are adult to student ratios that must be met which varies from each division. Thank you for your continued suppor t. WINTER WEATHER During the winter season, there are occasions that the students are kept in for indoor recess. It is generally accepted that when the wind-chill factor is –25C, students do not go out for recess. We also practice modified recess for day when temperature is between –20C and –24C. On these cold days, we consult regularly with the Weather Network. Please ensure your child is coming to school prepared for the weather. Hats, gloves, scarves, boots are all essential. Depending on the age of the child, snow pants are also an important item. Ensure items are labelled with your child’s name on them. Indoor shoes must be kept at school. Wet boots are not permitted inside the classrooms, gym, or library for safety reasons. SNOW AND ICE Now that the cold months have arrived and snow and ice are plentiful, a reminder of our safety policy is warranted. Throwing snowballs and sliding on ice are not allowed. As much fun as snow and ice are, they can be very dangerous when there are many people in one area. Most student injuries happen during the winter months. In order for our school to be as safe as possible, the school rule must be that snow stays on the ground—no snowballs, kicking snow or any other activity with snow or ice that could be harmful. Students are reminded daily on morning announcement as well as in the classrooms. Please take a few moments to reinforce these important safety rules with your children. COLD AND FLU SEASON Please use discretion in keeping your child home to recover if they are ill. A child who is coughing, wheezing, etc. is not in a state to learn and will only infect others. If a student is sent to school, it is assumed that they will participate in all aspects of the school day, including outdoor recess.
