Scardicchio Vice-Principal D. Brkic Secretaries G. Brazeau N. Hajdinjak Parish St. Francis Xavier Parish Pastor The Gospels teach us many important things about Mary: She listened to the Holy Spirit in her heart and responded with her “yes”. She did all God asked of her. She showed us how to live as followers of Jesus. She gave thanks and praise to God for His love for her. God our Father, we come together to celebrate Mary, the mother of Jesus. She was born and lived her whole life free from sin. She always did what you wanted her to do. May we listen to your will and say “yes” with joy as Mary did. We pray in the name of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. AMEN Msgr. Edgardo Pan (905) 890-5290 Trustee T. For the DufferinPeel Catholic District School Board, these are: JK – Grade 1 Grades 2 – 4 Grades 5 – 8 Grades 9 – 12 1.0 kilometre 1.6 kilometres 2.0 kilometres 4.8 kilometres The purpose of this communication is to ensure that parents of students currently in grade 1, grade 4 and grade 8 are aware that transportation eligibility status for your child may change next year as your child moves, respectively, to grades 2, 5 and 9. As the distance criteria increases at the noted grade levels, students who are currently eligible for transportation in grades 1, 4 and 8, may no longer be eligible for transportation when they move to the next grade level. Effective June 1, transportation eligibility information for 2013-2014 will be available on our website. To confirm the transportation eligibility status for your child for the 2013-2014 school year, please access our website at www.stopr.ca. Access the “Am I Eligible for Transportation?” icon, select 2013-2014 and enter the required address, 2013-2014 grade level, and program information to obtain the transportation eligibility status for your child. This notification is provided to advise parents of a potential change in transportation eligibility and, therefore, provide sufficient time for parents to make arrangements to get their child to school, if required. INTEGRATED RIDERSHIP Since 2011, Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) has been utilizing integrated ridership on various bus runs. With integrated ridership, students from both Dufferin-Peel and Peel schools ride together on the same buses. All eligible students continue to be transported on runs where integrated ridership is implemented. Integrated ridership is designed to create a more effective and efficient operation of service, is more environmentally friendly and reduces traffic in our communities. STOPR staff continues to assess additional school communities where integrated ridership may be feasible. STOPR will provide additional information to your school community, if integrated ridership will be implemented for the 2013-2014 school year in your area. Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Club Grades 1, 2, 3 Parent Letter Dear Parents/Guardians: We are pleased to be able offer your child the opportunity to join the Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Club. This program is an exciting project offered jointly through the Dufferin-Peel Separate School Board and the Public Library System. There is no cost to participate in the Ready, Set, Read! Club. Ready, Set, Read! Read Aloud sessions will be held at numerous Public Library Branches (list provided) to model and demonstrate reading comprehension strategies. These sessions will be held one hour per week for six weeks, beginning the week of July 1st. Your child is invited to come and hear great stories read aloud. These sessions will be led by Dufferin-Peel teachers and parents are encouraged to participate in the learning! Ready, Set, Read! provides students with titles of books that are “Just Right Books” at their independent reading level (books that can be read by your child with an accuracy rate of 95-100% with good comprehension and fluency). Children will also be taught strategies to choose books independently. These books will be available through the Public Library System. You will be provided with your child’s independent reading level assigned by his/her teacher. Reading lists for your child’s level can be found by following the “Ready, Set, Read!” link on the Dufferin-Peel website (www.dpcdsb.org) or your local library website. Research has proven that when children read at their independent reading level, they are developing all three goals of reading as determined by the Ministry of Education: fluency, motivation and comprehension. Books at the independent reading level provide the exact amount of support and challenge necessary to build and consolidate reading skills and strategies. All families who participate will receive a “Parent Toolkit” which provides a framework for guiding your child’s reading throughout the summer and a “Student Toolkit” that will enable your child to log books read throughout the summer and complete reading responses to his/her reading. A certificate will be awarded to celebrate great reading over the summer at the end of the program. There are two options to register your child(ren) for Ready, Set, Read!: by clicking on the “Ready, Set, Read!” link on the Dufferin-Peel website on-line at the link provided: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Ready_Set_Read PARENTS MUST REGISTER THEIR CHILD(REN) FOR READY, SET, READ!
