EASTER PRAYER
Lord, You have arisen forever,
In our hearts!
May the increasing sunrise,
Remind us to shine in your Light.
May the caress of gentle breezes,
Remind us of Your compassion.
May the Fragrance of the coming
flowers
Remind us to blossom in Your Love.
May the spring singing of birds,
Bring songs of joy to our lips.
And in the closing of each day,
May we remember to quietly pray.
Wherever we are whatever we do,
May our thoughts in joy return to You!
Susan Helen Kramer

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
Schools and Parishes across the province
will be celebrating the enduring gift of
Catholic Education during Catholic Education Week . This year’s celebration , entitled “Catholic Education: Growing Together
in Faith” is scheduled for the week of May
6th to May 10, 2013. We are celebrating
the Year of Faith along with the rest of the
church. We remember that we are called
to ‘grow in faith’, to bloom where we are
planted and that we are rooted in Christ.
The scriptural passage that guides our
theme is: ‘That Christ may dwell in your
hearts through faith, as you are being
rooted and grounded in love.’ Ephesians 3:17
This year’s five sub-themes, one for each
of the five days of Catholic Education
Week, help students to understand the
rich meaning of this year’s theme:
Faith that is … Rooted
Faith that is … Nurtured
Faith that is … Discerned
Faith that is … Witnessed
Faith that is … Celebrated
Catholic Education Week begins on a Sunday to highlight the partnership that remains the foundation of Catholic education
between our Catholic schools and local
Page 2
Catholic parishes. Throughout Catholic Education Week, we ask you to reflect on the significance of Catholic education’s presence and
contribution in our Church, and in our society.
We invite all members of our community, to
participate in the celebrations and activities
that will mark the celebration of Catholic Education Week 2013 in our schools.
FAITH YOUTH AMBASADORS
The faith of students and staff at San Lorenzo
Ruiz Elementary School was witnessed during
the season of Lent. In addition to preparing
and leading a prayer and reflection activity for a
group of younger students within the school,
the Faith Youth Ambassadors' Team felt a calling to do charitable work during the holy season of Easter. This dedicated group of approximately twenty-five students in grades 6-8, together with staff members spent a lunch hour
busily making sandwiches for the hungry. The
fun sandwich making session began and ended
with a prayer for those less fortunate in our
community. The sandwiches and the boxes of
food collected during a week long food drive,
that were dropped off at the Knights' Table,
were evidence of the beautiful faith of the students of this school community.
WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN
All new junior kindergarten students who will
be attending St. Lorenzo Ruiz School in September are invited to join us (along with their parents) in our Welcome to Kindergarten evening,
on Tuesday April 16th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. Welcome to Kindergarten is an orientation
program, where families participate in activities
that will help junior kindergarten students prepare for school.

In each class we strive for a balance of
learning styles, a balance of gender, a balance of learning needs and a cross-section
of abilities.
The current teachers of a grade, support

CREATING CLASSES FOR SEPTEMBER 2013

Principal no later than April 29, 2013.
Frame requests in terms of educational
contexts, e.g. your child’s learning
needs/style; information not already
known to the school; best learning environment.
Please do not make requests for specific teachers as staffing is always tentative and changes can take place between now and September.
Class formation is a complex procedure, which
takes into consideration not only the needs of
the individual child, but frames those needs in

DRESS CODE
ARE YOU TICKED?
Direction of school support has long been an issue for
Catholic school boards in Ontario. The fact is that, unless
the municipality is notified, the school support designation, for assessment purposes, automatically defaults to
public school support when an individual or family moves
to a new address.
This may have an impact on students’ eligibility to attend Catholic elementary schools, trustee representation
on school boards, and on government perception of support for Catholic education.
We want to bring a greater awareness around this matter and have created the Are You Ticked? campaign as the
communication vehicle for this awareness.
If you would like more information on school support
designation or would like us to help you check or change
your school support designation to the Catholic system,
please call us at (905) 890-0708, ext. 24512.

PREPARING CHILDREN FOR SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s Special
Education Advisory Committee (S.E.A.C.) is sponsoring a
workshop session for parents of students with diverse
learning needs entitled Preparing Children for Success in
School and Life with Dr. Marcia Tate. This initiative is
made possible through the Parent Reaching Out grant
funded by the Ministry of Education. Participants in this
workshop will learn techniques which can help them get
their children off to a healthy start, build relationships with
them throughout their lives, equip them with the necessary structure for healthy brain development, and assist
them in increasing their academic achievement.
