Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: The Campus Safety Department took a report of a theft from a vehicle that was parked on campus in lot #5. A student reported their wallet was stolen from of a backpack located in their car. The student's credit cards were used to make fraudulent purchases. The student had been to several different locations, on and off campus, since last seeing their wallet. It is not known with certainty where the wallet was stolen. A report was also made with the Kentwood Police Department. The bicycle was a blue Trek Mountain bike and was not registered with the Campus Safety Department. The student discovered the phone was gone when they went to retrieve it at the place they had left it. A student reported they parked their bike, unlocked, in the west Science Building bike rack in the morning and it was gone when they came back that night to get it. Calvin College staff were hosting a teacher search event and a person who had been previously banned from the event for being disruptive was there. Campus Safety Officers asked the person to leave and they did with out incident. Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: Campus Safety Officers responded to the Spoelhof Fieldhouse complex for a large group of twenty people trespassing in the Hoogenboom gym. GRPD was called to assist due to aggressive behavior by some members of the group on a previous contact for trespassing. The group was told they would have to leave and they did with out incident. The two subjects were found and identified. Both subjects were intoxicated and a pellet gun was found in their possession. Since neither subject had any connection with Calvin College, they were escorted off campus and advised they would be arrested for trespassing if they returned. Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: Campus Safety took a fraud report from a student who had received a check for an item they sold online. The student had cashed the check and returned extra money to the sender. The check was later determined to be fake and the student was out the money they sent back. The student was advised to make a report with the Grand Rapids Police Department as well. A student stated they were studying in the Library when they noticed their IPhone missing. It was last seen in an open compartment of their backpack. The victim put their clothing in the dryer and when they returned the items had were missing. A staff member was leaving the Spoelhof Fieldhouse after work and noticed three subjects in the lot near their car. As the staff member approached the car they noticed one of the subjects was carrying a gun. The subjects all got into a vehicle and left the area toward the Burton street entrance. The person was contacted and identified and told he could not ask for money while on campus. They left soon after the contact. The professor's credit card company had called about the possible fraudulent use of their credit card and this is when they realized the purse was missing. There were no cameras in the area to identify any possible suspects. A report was made with the Grand Rapids Police Department for further investigation. Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: Campus Safety Officers responded to the area of the Hampshire Gate on a call of some suspicious persons. A neighbor saw three young male subjects with hoods pulled up and found their bikes hidden in the bushes. Campus Safety Officers made contact with two of the subjects who said they were on campus to do Parkour. The third subject had run upon seeing Campus Safety. The subjects were asked to leave campus and they did. A student parked their bike, a black Specialized Hardrock Mountain bike in the Boer/Bennink bike rack and the bike was missing the next morning. The student was not certain if they had locked the bike to the rack. Campus Safety Officers checked the campus but did not locate the bike. Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: A student reported to the Campus Safety Department that $40.00 had been stolen from their wallet. The student believed the money was stolen while they were either in the fitness center or the Men's Pool locker room. Video surveillance showed no suspicious activity in the fitness center, however there are no cameras for locker rooms. The locker room doors were not locked at the time due to outside group pool activities. They observed a male subject walking on the walkway outside of their room and felt he looked suspicious. They did not have a good enough description to identify the person and did not give any particular reason why it was suspicious to them. Campus Safety Officers have been assigned to regularly patrol the Residence Hall area to monitor for suspicious persons and behavior. Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: The Campus Safety Department took a stolen bike report from a student who stated they parked and locked their grey, Univega bike at the Delta bike rack at 12:00pm on June 9th. On June 15th at 9:00am they found the bike was no longer at the bike rack. Campus Safety Officers checked the campus but did not locate the bike. Ref. #: Disposition: CLOSED Notes: The Campus Safety Department took a suspicious situation report from a staff member who had received a strange text message. The staff member was currently having some family conflict and was concerned that the text may be related. The Campus Safety Supervisor viewed the text which seemed nonsensical.
