Name: ______________________
1. (5 points)
Divide 3.58 m by 7.5  10-2 s, taking into account significant figures. Express
your answer using scientific (power of 10) notation!
2. (5 points) CONCEPTUAL QUESTION
If the acceleration of an object is zero, does it necessarily mean that the velocity
is zero? Give a brief example to justify your answer.
3. (20 points)
At time t = 0 a car is at the origin and is traveling at 40 m/s along in the positive xdirection. It is undergoing a constant acceleration, which is slowing it down. After it
has traveled a distance 175 m from the origin, its velocity is 25 m/s.
a. Compute the acceleration of the car.
b. Compute the time it took the car to go the 175 m.
c. Assuming that the acceleration remains the same, compute the time (after it
passes the origin) that it takes the car to stop.
d. Assuming that the acceleration remains the same, compute distance the car has
gone at t = 10 s after leaving the origin.
