Mr. Pace
Social Studies Teacher
Barren County Middle School
Glasgow, Kentucky
Welcome
• Welcome to Mr. Pace’s class.
• I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will
do my job; you will do yours, and we will
together use this year wisely and beneficially.
• Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep
it all the time.
Some of my interests
WHY DO WE HAVE
PROCEDURES?
• A procedure is the way that we do things.
– To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures,
for example:
– To open your locker, you have to select your combination as
directed by the lock manufacturer.
--- To place a call on your phone, you need to dial
the number in the right order.
• So, to be successful in learning, you need to
follow some simple procedures.
Entering the Classroom
• Please make sure you have all of the necessary
items for the class (pencil, paper, and homework).
• Enter the classroom at a Voice Level 0.
• Go directly to your assigned seat.
• Prepare materials for class, get out homework
from previous day if we have any, and get ready
for your work.
Exiting the Classroom
• The bell does not dismiss you from my
classroom. The teacher dismisses you from the
classroom.
• The bell is just a reminder to me that it is time to
change classes.
• When I dismiss you, gather your materials and
walk, don’t run, out of the classroom.
IF THE TEACHER RAISES
HIS HAND
• Stop whatever you are doing at
that moment.
• Face the teacher and wait
silently.
• Notify any classmates who
haven’t noticed that the teacher
has raised his hand.
• No talking or whispering. All
of your attention should be
given to the teacher.
Getting My Attention
• If you have a
question while I am
teaching, raise your
hand and wait for
me to call on you.
Right after the bell
• Immediately start the Do-Now that will be written
either on the board or the smart board.
• Do the Do-Now on your Do-Now sheet which I
will provide.
• When you finish, wait quietly for the next
direction.
DURING
INSTRUCTION
•
•
•
•
Listen to the teacher with full attention.
No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering.
Ask permission to speak by raising your hand.
Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions
which are not related to the subject can be asked after
instruction.
• After instruction, make sure you understand the concept.
If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t
understand.
AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH AN
ASSIGNMENT
• Check your work and the directions one more
time to see if you missed anything or did
something incorrectly.
• If the assignment is to be turned in, do so.
• You may work on make-up work, work for
another class, or read silently. Do not disturb
those that are still working.
Passing Out/In Papers
• Students will pass papers across rows
not up and down the rows.
• Receive the paper from the student
sitting to your left. After receiving
their papers, pass your paper along
with those you received to the
student to your right.
What do I do when I am
not here?
• When you are absent from my classroom
you have 2 options of finding out what we
did while you were not here.
• Option 1 – Teacher Website
http://www.barren.k12.ky.us/olc/teacher.a
spx?s=1275
• Option 2 – Ask a friend or classmate.
Group Work
• Working in groups in a great way for
you as students to learn from each
other instead of always having to
listen to me. It is also very
important that we know how to work
in groups in order to accomplish the
proper outcome of the activity.
Group Work
• Students will listen to all directions before
moving into the assigned groups.
• Once the teachers has given the go ahead to get
into groups, students will move quickly and at a
voice level 0 into their groups.
• Moving into groups means you get up out of your
seat and pick up your desk and move it. DO NOT
sit in your desk and scoot your desk.
• Once you have gotten into your groups each group
member will raise their hand and face the teacher
and await further instructions.
Group Work
• Once the teacher had given final instructions and
students begin work, you are to work at a voice
level 1 while in the groups. Once you complete the
task, all groups members should be at a voice level
0.
• Make sure when we are doing group work that you
listen to the instructions very carefully.
Sometimes I might only want 1 person to write
the information down and other times I might
want every group member to write. You must
listen carefully to all instructions before
beginning to work.
Leaving the Classroom/Hall
Passes
• You are allowed 1 restroom break from my
classroom each 9 week. Use it wisely.
• When going to the restroom you must sign
out on the classroom log sheet located on
the clipboard above the pencil sharpener.
• The pass will also be hanging on the
clipboard. Make sure to take the pass
with you to the restroom.
• Upon returning to the restroom, you must
sign the time in which you entered back
into the room.
Classroom Visitors
• Visitors will be coming by often into the
classroom. They might be there to watch you or
they may be there to watch me. You may never
know.
• Whenever a visitor visits our classroom, never
speak to a visitor unless you are spoken to.
• We will continue on with class if they come in
while I am actively teaching. If you are working
on an assignment, you are to continue working
without stopping.
• There shall be no talking period unless you are
speaking to me.
What if you are not in your
room?
• So what! You know what to do and how to behave.
I should not have to be there every second to
watch over you.
• If I am not in the classroom when the bell rings,
you know that you have to work on the Do-Now
that will be posted. If for some reason there is
not a Do-Now posted, study the previous days
work or read a book silently.
• If I step out for just a second during the class
period, that does not give you the right to begin
talking you those around you. You are to continue
working on what it is you are working on.
Textbooks
• You will be assigned a certain textbook from the
classroom set. You will be responsible for that
book throughout the year. You are to report any
accidents that happen to that textbook or if you
see any type of damage to the textbook.
• When we use the textbooks, we will get the
textbooks off the bookshelf 1 row at a time. You
are not to speak to anyone as you are getting your
textbook.
• When we have completed our work with the
textbooks we will put our textbooks back on the
bookcase 1 row at a time.
