FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES

This course emphasizes study of accounting principles related to financial statements.
Students will learn about ways in which information in these statements is used in
making business decisions. Prerequisite: Introduction. to Financial Accounting, Grade
11, University/College Preparation
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: VENTURE PLANNING IN AN ELECTRONIC AGE
Grade 12, College Preparation (BDV4C1)
This course provides students with the opportunity to develop and apply
entrepreneurial skills through the creation of a venture plan that capitalizes on the
potential of e-commerce. Students will research and identify an opportunity for a
venture. They will then complete the components of a venture plan that includes a
website. Prerequisites: None
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS FUNDAMENTALS

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade
in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international
markets. Recommended: Any university, university/college, or college preparation
course in business studies or Canadian and world studies

This course focuses on ways in which organizations deal with issues affecting their

BUSINESS LEADERSHIP: BECOMING A MANAGER
Grade 12, Workplace Preparation (BOG4E1)
This course helps students prepare for managerial positions in their future careers.
Students will focus on the development of core skills required to become a successful
manager, including operations management, inventory control, marketing, financial
planning, scheduling, and communication. Students will also explore the management
challenges of hiring, training, and motivating employees, and complying with legal
requirements. Prerequisites: None
BUILDING FINANCIAL SECURITY– PERSONAL FINANCE
Grade 12, University (IDC4U3)
This course investigates personal financial management, capital markets and ways in
which capital is acquired. Students will use diverse information skills, resources, and
technologies to gather information related to a variety of Canadian and international
financial institutions, investigate the conceptual and mathematical foundations of
increasing net worth, and examine investment in the stock market. They will also
analyze investment products offered by the major financial institutions. Students will
learn the practical skills required to thoroughly analyze personal investment choices
and learn to solve problems through theoretical investigation and case studies.

studies or Canadian and world studies
ANALYZING CURRENT ECONOMIC ISSUES,
Grade 12, University (CIA4U1)
This course investigates the nature of the competitive global economy and explores
how individuals and societies can gain the information they need to make appropriate
economic decisions. Students will learn about the principles of microeconomics and
macroeconomics, apply economic models and concepts to interpret economic
information, assess the validity of statistics, and investigate marketplace dynamics.

Successful completion of 6 required courses will earn you a Business Certificate
upon graduation. At least 4 courses must be coded within the Business discipline
(i.e. BTT, BDI etc.) In addition, the following courses may also be eligible:
Grade 11/12 Economics (CIE3M / CIA4U), Grade 12 Building Financial
Security: Personal Finance (IDC4U3) or a Cooperative Education Credit.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of
accounting, with emphasis on accounting procedures used in service and
merchandising businesses.

This course focuses on ways in which entrepreneurs recognize opportunities,
generate ideas, and organize resources to plan successful ventures. Students will
learn about values, traits and skills most often associated with successful

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of marketing, with an emphasis
on in-depth analysis of the influence of changes in the economy and global
marketplace, trends and issues, and the impact of technology. Students will also
develop a company and present a marketing plan for a specific product.

This course introduces students to the use of information technology in a business
environment. Students will learn how to use information technology in a work
environment, perform electronic research, communicate electronically, and use
common business software. This course will assist students in future courses by
giving them the skills to create professional documents and presentations.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

This course introduces students to the world of business, including the concepts,
functions, and skills required for meeting the challenges of operating a business in the
twenty-first century on a local, national, and/or international scale. Students will also

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY: THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT
Grade 11, Open (BTA3O1)
This course provides students with the opportunity to develop the information
technology skills and knowledge required in a business. Students will learn about
electronic business, and explore occupations. Students will have the option to
work towards their MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) Certification.

ECONOMICS: THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE ECONOMY
Grade 11, University/College (CIE3M1)
This course explores elements of the Canadian economic system that will help
students make informed decisions about how to use resources to satisfy wants
and needs. Students will use economic concepts and models, as well as methods
of economic inquiry, to analyze the choices they will make during their lives as
consumers, contributors, and citizens in a mixed economy.
Prerequisite: None (Grade 10 Canadian History in the Twentieth Century,
Academic or Applied)
