ACTION ITEMS 1. Consider Approval of Minutes from April 23, 2014 Meeting Motion (Muñoz) second (Jalomo), and unanimously carried, the CPC moved to approve the minutes of April 23, 2014 as submitted. 2. Board Policies and Administrative Procedures Willard Lewallen Courtesy Review BP 2015 Student Member of the Governing Board BP 2432 CEO Succession Dr. Lewallen explained, per BP 2410, that BP 2015 and BP 2432 are policies that directly affect the governing board and are presented to the CPC as a courtesy review. No action will be taken. First Reading – No Action Necessary Second Reading – Consider Approval AP 4030 Academic Freedom Motion (Kimbrough) second (Kildal) and unanimously carried, the CPC moved to approve AP 4030, Academic Freedom. INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATION 1. Report on the Status of SLO’s Development, Assessment, and all Results Kathy Mendelsohn, Dean of Academic Affairs, with the assistance of Cheryl O’Donnell, faculty, delivered a presentation on the meaning of student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, core competencies, service area outcomes, and recent data included in the first follow up report to the accrediting commission. Those data reported were: • 71% of offered courses were assessed in Fall 2013 • 50% of active courses have been assessed • 50% of SAOs have been assessed • 75% of programs have been assessed • 100% of Core Competencies have been assessed Kathy then spoke to the ways in which the assessments are carried out for student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, core competencies, and service area outcomes. She commended the faculty and staff for the amount of work completed this year; that more needs to be done, but much was accomplished. Report to the Community 2012-13 Willard Lewallen Dr. Lewallen announced the completion of and posting of the Report to the Community 2012-13. Further, he stated, the goal is to produce the annual report, focused on the previous academic year, by September of each year. Also, he noted that next year’s report will align with the priorities within the strategic plan. In closing, he noted the completion of this report aids the district in meeting an accreditation standard. He thanked Esmeralda Montenegro, Director of Communications, for her contributions to the report. 3. Resource Allocation Requests for 2014-15 / Tentative One-time Allocations Willard Lewallen Dr. Lewallen announced tentative one-time allocations a) $1 million for information technology, and b) $350,000 for instructional equipment requests from Academic Affairs. These expenditures will remain tentative until after the district receives the May revise. 2 Hartnell College Vision Statement: Hartnell College will be nationally recognized for the success of our students by developing leaders who will contribute to the social, cultural, and economic vitality of our region and the global community. Decisions to further approve resource allocation requests depend on the budget. Dr. Ann Wright requested that the CPC receive a listing of expenditures once determined. While commitments have been made for new faculty positions for next year, no other personnel decisions can be made until the district has a better picture of the budget. 4. Proposed 16 Week Semester Calendar Dr. Lewallen reported that a taskforce has been meeting since last academic year to explore a 16-week calendar. He thanked the members of the taskforce for their work: Ann Wright, Amy Taketomo, Janeen Whitmore, Stephanie Low, Mary Dominguez, and Lori Kildal. This year, the group continued to work on the schedule grid (days/times). The group has recommended moving forward with approval. Several steps are required leading up to an approval, including approval by the College Planning Council, governing board, and Chancellor’s Office. If approved, the plan is to implement the new calendar beginning academic year 2015-16. The next step is to forward the proposal to employee groups for input for the remainder of May. The input will then come back to the CPC at a special meeting of June 5, 10 a.m. Received and reviewed by the CPC were the following documents: a. Proposed Special Meeting Willard Lewallen The CPC agreed to schedule a special meeting to consider the approval of a 16 week calendar. The meeting is scheduled June 5, 10 a.m., E-112.
