Social Sciences Dean
Margaret Brainard tells
us that Becky Garske,
Coordinator of the Early
Childhood Education
Program, was recently
elected President-Elect of
the Michigan Association
for the Education of Young
Children (MiAEYC), assuming the office on June 27, 2009.
Becky will become President of
the MiAEYC at the end of June 2010,
for a term of two years. Congratulations to Becky
for her outstanding work within the Early Childhood Education community in Michigan.
MCC chefs and culinary arts instructors Matt Cooper and Bill
Crawford, along with other chefs from the local chapter of the
American Culinary Federation, prepared culinary delights and provided tastings at the Dort Federal Credit Union's Taste of the Market,
at Flint Farmers' Market on Saturday, June 20. In addition, ACF
chefs will provide demos each Thursday through Labor Day at
Farmers' Market. Chef Cooper arranges for ACF chefs to volunteer
for these activities. This year marks the third year that Chef Cooper
has lead the "Chefs at the Market" demo series, designed to promote
the culinary program at MCC and the importance of having welltrained and skilled culinarians in the industry's kitchens. The demos
have been so popular that Dort Federal now sponsors the event by
providing funding to offset the costs of advertising and needed equipment. So far the Market, The ACF, and MCC have been a winning
combination. Flint Farmer's Market is located at 420 East Boulevard
Drive. For details, call (810) 232-1399 or visit www.flintfarmersmarket.com.

Foundation for MCC once again came through with a donation, WalMart donated $50 and also gave us a good deal on bikes."
