ABC TV's Shark Tank Star Daymond
Green to Keynote MCC Ballenger
Series, Nov. 1
Daymond John launched his career as an entrepreneur by
making and selling tie top hats on the streets of Queens, New
York.
Rising from those humble beginnings, to achieving his first
huge success, the Hip-Hop inspired FUBU (For Us, By Us) clothing line, to starring in ABC's hit reality business show "Shark
Tank," John has become one of the most highly-respected business experts in America. John will deliver the keynote address,
headlining the second installment of the 2012 Mott Community
College Ballenger Eminent Persons Lecture Series entitled "Create, Build, Succeed: An Entrepreneurship Conference" at 7 pm,
Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 in the Mott Community College Ballenger Field House. This event is free and
open to the public.
The first session of the 2012 Ballenger Lecture Series on business and entrepreneurship featured
Flint native David Tarver as the keynote speaker. Tarver, author of the memoir Proving Ground and an
engineer who created a multi-million dollar telecommunications company, also joined a number of local
entrepreneurs presenting workshops to share their individual successes and challenges. The November 1
Ballenger program will also feature sessions for business students, as the series will continue through
2013 with appearances by national and local business leaders, culminating in a "Shark Tank"-style business competition.
The Ballenger Lecture Series has brought dozens of renowned national and international leaders to
the Mott Community College main campus in Flint for decades. In recent years, the series presented lectures by renowned filmmaker/director Spike Lee; Lech Walesa, former President of Poland and founder
of the Polish Solidarity Movement; legendary entertainer/activist Harry Belafonte, poet/singer Patti Smith
and prominent civil rights attorney Morris Dees. For information about the Ballenger Lecture Series,
please call the Foundation for Mott Community College at (810) 762-0425.

Update on Articulation
Agreements at MCC
Articulation agreements serve as a bridge and give MCC students
additional options, such as two years of coursework at MCC and one
year at the college or university (2+2), or three years at MCC and one
year at the college or university (3+1). These agreements specify a
course taking plan, that when followed by a student at MCC, results in
a seamless transfer of credits for the student to their program of study
at the university.
Recent, new or updated articulation agreements include:
• An agreement with Ferris State University in the Hotel
Management Degree Program. Students who have completed
degree requirements in MCC's Culinary Arts program may
apply to the Bachelor’s program at Ferris. The hotel industry
leads the service segment of our economy with continued
expansion and opportunities abounding. Hotel Management
students are prepared for management, sales and marketing
opportunities in the hotel industry by course work that
combines theory with authentic hands-on learning
experiences. Students may complete three years at Mott
College and complete their degree with an additional year at
Ferris. Visit http://www.ferris.edu/bachelor-degree-hotel-man
agement.html for details.
• An opportunity for Mott Community College students who
have completed their AGS degree with a concentration in
Graphic Design to transfer into the Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree program at Central Michigan University with a Graphic
Design Concentration. The Michigan Department of Labor
and Economic Growth projects a nearly 20% increase in the
number of graphic design jobs in the state by 2012. CMU
offers classes ranging from typography and print design to web
design and design animation. It has been at the forefront of
contemporary issues relating to socially relevant design, and
has placed students in internships across the United States and
overseas. For more information, please visit
http://www.art.cmich.edu/graphic_design.html
• A transfer agreement with The Art Institute of Michigan which
offers students who have completed the Associate's degree in
the Culinary Arts program to transfer to The Art Institute of
Michigan for their Bachelor of Arts degree in Culinary
Management.
• An agreement with Central Michigan University for students
to enter the Bachelor of Science Degree program option in
Community Development with a Public Administration
concentration. This agreement is for students who have earned
an Associate in Applied Science – Fire Protection Technology
degree from Mott Community College. This agreement
benefits students interested in working in the public sector or
human services, as students who complete this degree are
prepared for careers in local, state and federal administration
and more.
Please visit articulation.mcc.edu for a comprehensive list of
articulation agreements.
