William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Fulmer will be teaching a short course on cultural journalism, addressing the intersection of art/ design and social and political issues. Fulmer is one of more than 400 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad this year through the Fulbright Specialists Program. The Fulbright Specialists Program, created in 2000 to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, provides short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) to prominent U.S. faculty and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at post secondary, academic institutions around the world. The Fulbright Program, America's flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Over its 60 years of existence, thousands of U.S. faculty and professionals have taught, studied or conducted research abroad and thousands of their counterparts from other countries have engaged in similar activities in the United States. More than 285,000 emerging leaders in their professional fields have received Fulbright awards, including individuals who later became heads of government, Nobel Prize winners and leaders in education, business, journalism, the arts and other fields. Recipients of Fulbright Scholar awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement. Among thousands of prominent Fulbright Scholar alumni are Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize-winning economist; Alan Leshner, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); Rita Dove, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet; and Craig Barrett, Chairman of the Board of Intel Corporation. Distinguished Fulbright Specialist participants include Mahmoud Ayoub, Professor of Religion at Temple University; Heidi Hartmann, President and CEO, Institute for Women's Policy Research; Percy R. Luney, Jr. Dean and Professor, College of Law, Florida A&M University and Emily Vargas-Barone, Founder and Executive Director of the RISE Institute. MCC Nursing Program Announces Accreditation Review Visit Mott Community College's Nursing Program will be hosting a site review for continuing accreditation of its Associate Degree in Applied Sciences – Nursing Program (ADN). The ADN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The review visit for continuing accreditation is scheduled for Feb. 7-9, 2012. Members of the public are invited to meet the visit team and share comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 4:00 pm in the Gorman Auditorium d Ca m p us Honors Program Coordinator Brian Ivory received the Michigan Campus Compact Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award on Jan. 30 at the Michigan Campus Compact dinner program held at Michigan State University. Michigan Campus Compact is a state-wide consortium of higher education presidents working together to promote service learning programming on college campuses. Congratulations, Brian! Music Prof. Mary Procopio performed with the Les Amis D'Haiti Orchestra in a benefit concert on Jan. 22 in Peoria, Ill. The concert raised funds for the Holy Trinity Music School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti that was destroyed in the 2010 Haiti earthquake. English Prof. Fairy Hayes-Scott lets us know that former MCC Public Safety officer Jeff Wheeler, author of Where is Adam: Understanding the Importance of Fatherhood, will have a book signing on Thursday, March 29 at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 1150 Robert T. Black History Month Event to Feature MCC Alumni, February 8 In observance of Black History Month, a distinguished panel of community activists and MCC alums will discuss their roles and achievements against the backdrop of the national Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. The panel discussion, entitled "Who's Driving the Bus," is scheduled from 12 noon to 1:30 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Student Life Center of MCC's Prahl College Center. Winfrey, founder and director of the Coalition for Positive Youth Development and Executive Director of the New McCree Theater in Flint. The group will share their perspectives regarding the impact of the Civil Rights struggle at Flint Junior College as well as current issues facing African-Americans in the Flint area. Paul Rozycki, retired MCC Political Science Professor, will serve as moderator. Students and audience members will have an opportunity to interact with the panelists. Lennetta Coney, executive director of college and community advancement and Foundation for Mott Community College president, stated the panel is designed to help raise awareness of issues effecting African Americans both yesterday and today. She expects the discussion will "inspire today's students to be an instrument for continued growth and change." "We want to inspire our students to get involved, to help solve the issues facing our community," Coney stated. "These individual experts have personally helped pave the way and pioneered some of Flint's most memorable moments in history. We need to remember and to be inspired to continue pioneering the future for our children." Cleary University Offers New BBA Degree Program at MCC University Center Starting this month, Cleary University will begin offering an Applied Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BBA) with majors in Applied Business Management; Applied Entrepreneurship; Applied Health Care Management and Applied Sustainability Management. The Applied Bachelor's degree is for non-Business majors and provides the student with an opportunity to learn the "business side" of each of these areas. The Applied BBA program provides a unique opportunity for students to pursue a broad range of careers. For example, a student who has completed an Associate's degree in cosmetology at MCC may want to open their own salon. The Applied Entrepreneurship track will give the student the management skills needed to achieve that goal. Classes are offered in a blended format – both in the classroom and online. Health Services Center Announces Winter Schedule Health Services Center Announces Winter Schedule Nurse practitioners are available to perform physical examinations in the Health Services Center by appointment. Physicals are $25. TB Tests, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccinations are available from 8 am to 4:30 pm most days by appointment. TB Tests are $10, Tetanus and MMR vaccinations are $50. Visitors to the Health Services Center can pay for physicals and vaccinations at the cashier's office and bring the receipt to the Health Services Center, which is located in CM-1146 of the Curtice- Complex.
