Lapeer Extension Center Sees
Growth and Welcomes New Staff
The Lapeer Extension Center hosted 79 Lapeer
High School students for one of three MCC New
Student Orientations Thursday, April 24. They were
treated to pizza and took the MCC Placement Test.
The high school juniors will participate in the DEEP
Dual Enrollment Project with Lapeer Community
Schools beginning in fall 2014. A total of 97 students are slated to take courses as dual enrolled students Monday through Thursday at the Lapeer
Extension Center this fall, representing an increase
of 34 students over the 2013/14 academic year. This
is the second year of the project. Counselors Mary
Ann Newbill, Mary Koopman and Erica Findora facilitated the orientations, with support from the Admissions and Placement Testing Offices staff.
The Lapeer Extension Center also welcomed
Julie Simmonds as a new staff member. She will be working at the front desk as Secretary. Julie
brings extensive secretarial and customer service experience from her years of work at Goodrich
Schools, where she was known as the “get ‘er done gal” who comes to work early and stays late to
get the job done. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of
Michigan-Flint. Julie is married with three children, Brent, Courtney, and Jenna. Her husband, Brad,
works for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections. The family resides in Davison. Julie
says she keeps active outside by running/jogging, walking and biking in the summer.
