MOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S Endowment Growth Initiative S U S TA I N I N G T H E F U T U R E T H E F O U N D AT I O N F O R M O T T C O M M U N I T Y C O L L E G E EDUCATION IN THE 21ST CENTURY President’s Message Mott Community College has been educating and training workers for more than 80 years. We have supplied professionals, semi-professionals and skilled trade employees to a national economy always in need of service personnel and state-of-the-art technicians. Our graduates have kept our local economy moving forward as business leaders, nurses, dental assistants, accountants, hospitality employees, automotive technicians, and child development providers. As President of MCC, I am proud of the role our graduates and the institution have played in filling necessary jobs for improved technologies across the country. At the dawn of the 21st century, it is clear that education is changing as quickly as the technologies we serve. To remain effective as a viable supplier and partner in economic development, we must forge a more efficient financial stream to stem the reactive downturns occurring across the nation in both education and business. To remain largely dependent upon the traditional means of support including government revenue sharing and state aid - appears shortsighted if not outright irresponsible to the economic health of our entire region. As one of mid-Michigan's largest suppliers of fully-trained employees for literally thousands of jobs, we are strengthening our service with stronger ties to the business community and commerce leaders who depend upon us for their employees and the success of their enterprises. We are confident that there are many people, including more than a quarter of a million alumni, who know of the new challenges of providing a quality education in an economy that is demanding change at every level. Over the next year, we are approaching the leaders of this community, as well as thousands of beneficiaries of MCC's educational and training programs. We are asking not only their input on MCC's continued educational service to students throughout the region, but also suggestions to further improve MCC's provisions to respective corporations. At the same time, we are seeking significant financial support, particularly from those beneficiaries who can work with us to create even closer joint ventures to the benefit of students and employers alike. This brochure represents the most effective ways to financially support MCC in the 21st century. It describes how contributions will be used to support health sciences, technology initiatives, math and science, as well as the fine arts. It details various ways to make a financial donation with minimum disruption to the benefactor's financial portfolio. And it includes our financial support goals over the next three years. I encourage you to join us in creating a responsible, self-sustaining financial stream for Mott Community College in the 21st century. As a beneficiary of our education and training now and in years to come, I welcome you in forging this new course for MCC. Sincerely, M. Richard Shaink, Ph.D. President, Mott Community College 2 SUSTAINING THE FUTURE The Past Over 80 years ago, Mott Community College was founded in a very different world. Known at the time as Flint Junior College, it was housed in a few rooms within Central High School and had a total enrollment of 114 students. The Present Today, Mott Community College enrollment stands at more than 10,000 students in traditional academic programs in addition to over 4,000 students in non-academic programs such as business, commercial and industrial training. From those few rooms in Central High School, MCC's main campus encompasses over 60 acres with active campuses in Fenton, Lapeer, Howell and Clio. In a very real sense, Mott Community College is the "common ground" for our community. MCC became what it is because enlightened, far-seeing individuals were willing to give of themselves. For over 80 years Mott Community College has endured and thrived, changing hundreds of thousands of lives and strengthening the community. Throughout those years, individuals stepped forward time and time again to make a difference through Mott Community College. The Future The Foundation for Mott Community College has built a comprehensive partnership effort to create endowments and further our private-sector resource development program. Ultimately, the endowment effort will provide the necessary financial means to sustain the future of MCC. Successful endowments will allow us to not only maintain our current facilities and programs, but will also allow Mott Community College to remain a strong anchor in the community and maintain the high quality of education. This fund will use interest dollars to continue our outstanding operations while the endowed funds remain intact. In recognition of donor support, we will create an historical legacy of those who had the vision to sustain the future for us all. Benefactors who step up to the challenges of today and tomorrow may be honored by having a facility, a classroom or even a roadway on the MCC campus named. This is one way to recognize those individuals who make personal sacrifices to sustain the future for this college and the community it serves. The Path Projects on which we are focusing our endowment efforts include the new Visual Arts and Design Center, the Regional Technology Center, the Gorman Science Center, the Mott College Library and the Marie Prahl College Center. Each facility offers numerous opportunities for recognition of those far-sighted individuals able and willing to help build the college endowment for future generations. 3 GIVING OPPORTUNITIES The establishment of significant endowments will provide the necessary financial means to sustain the future of MCC. Successful endowments will allow us to not only maintain our current facilities and programs, but they will also allow Mott Community College to continue into the future. Such funds will use interest dollars to continue our outstanding operations while the endowed funds remain intact. AREAS OF FOCUS Following are programs on which we are focusing our endowment efforts. Each area offers numerous opportunities for recognition. Alumni Initiatives Business Fine Arts Health Sciences Humanities Math & Science Initiatives Quest Center Social Sciences Student Scholarships Technology Initiatives Visual Arts & Design Center The initiatives listed above each have their own recognition opportunities based on the level of the contribution. 4 MOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE ENDOWMENT GROWTH INITIATIVE The three-year campaign goal is $3,000,000.
