our KEYS (Keep Envisioning Your Success) Workshops. KEYS is a series of
workshops designed to support your academic and personal success. You

personal growth as a student. Past workshop topics have included:

Transfer ASSISTANCE
SSS Coordinators can assist you with the transfer process when you are ready
to move on from MCC. We help you research other colleges, assist you with
selecting courses that will transfer, and connect you with admissions staff at 4year universities. We can also connect you with other TRiO-SSS programs at
different colleges and universities to make the transition a smooth one.

Power HOUR
The TRiO Power Hour is an informal lunch that happens on the first Friday
of every month. The Power Hour provides TRiO students an opportunity to
share resources, interact with, and discuss relevant topics with others
students and TRiO staff. This is a great way to get some of your questions
and concerns answered. Or, perhaps you have a specific issue you would
like to raise with TRiO staff and students. Any topic is ok to talk about, for
example: stress, sadness, difficulty adjusting to school, academic concerns,
family problems, financial struggles, and relationship concerns. We provide
lunch!! You will receive 75 participation points for attending Power Hour
(see Participation Points on page 11).
Coaching SESSIONS
Coaching sessions are a face to face meeting with your coordinator to
discuss your progress with your education. We will talk about planning for
the next semester, course schedules, academic goals, career goals, transfer
opportunities, etc. You are required to attend at least one coaching session
per semester. You will receive 50 participation points for attending (see
Participation Points on page 11).
Coordinator CHAT
Coordinator Chat days are designated on your event calendars on the last
Tuesday of each month. Coordinator Chat is designed to connect with
members on a routine basis, address any problems our members may be
having, and to monitor your academic progress. Coming in to speak with a
coordinator on a Coordinator Chat day will earn you 10 participation points
(see Participation Points on page 11).

Laptop & Calculator LOAN
The SSS program has laptop computers and TI-83 graphing calculators
available for loan. The laptops are equipped with WIFI internet access and
Microsoft software such as Word, Access, Excel, and Power Point. The
laptop and calculator loan service is only available to SSS members and is
free of charge.
To use a SSS laptop or calculator members must:
 Sign the laptop agreement every time a laptop is checked out or sign
the calculator agreement at the start of the semester it is being loaned
for
 Never lend the laptop or calculator to anyone or leave it unattended at
any time
 Provide their own storage device for saving files (i.e. flash drive) on the
laptop
 See your coordinator for more information
Computer Lab & PRINTING
The TRiO SSS program has computers and printers available for use inside
of the Learning Center, Room 2280 of the Prahl College Center. TRiO
students can print up to 20 pages per day free of charge.
Awards & RECOGNITION
The TRiO-SSS program hosts an awards and recognition banquet at the end of
the year, usually in the month of May. This banquet acknowledges our SSS
members for their hard work, high GPA’s, and graduation; it also allows you to
share your success with family members and friends.
7
University VISITS
TRiO-SSS students are encouraged to attend visitations to other Michigan
universities and college campuses. University visits are scheduled
throughout the academic year and give members a feel for that particular
campus. A typical university visit may include a tour of the campus, a visit
to a typical dorm room, and lunch in the cafeteria. We also connect with
the Admissions staff for a question and answer period, which allows
students to ask any personal questions they may have.
University visits are FREE to SSS members and details will be available on the
monthly event calendars that are posted online and sent via email.
Attending a university visit earns you 250 participation points (see
Participation Points on page 11).
Past university visits have included:
 University of Michigan - Flint and Ann Arbor campuses
 Michigan State University
 Wayne State University
 Eastern Michigan University
 Saginaw Valley State University
 Central Michigan University
 Oakland University
Let your SSS Coordinator know if there is a particular campus that you
would like to visit!
8
Cultural ENRICHMENT
TRiO-SSS students (with a 2.0 or higher GPA) are invited to participate in various
cultural activities, FREE of charge. The goal of cultural enrichment is to take our
members “out of their comfort zone” to experience a variety of unique activities
and events that they either could not or normally would not attend. Cultural
activities are designed to open your eyes to the community and world around you
and provide incentive to further your education!
Members will receive semester newsletters and monthly calendars with details,
which will be posted online and sent via email. Space is limited on most events;
therefore, you must RSVP if you are interested in attending any of our cultural
activities. You will earn 150 participation points for attending most cultural trips,
some events may be worth more (see Participation Points on page 11).
If you RSVP for a cultural activity and cannot attend, we ask that you call and
cancel your reservation as soon as you know your plans have changed. If you
RSVP and do not call to cancel and do not show the day of the activity, we will
deduct the amount of points you would have earned had you attended. Also, you
will not be allowed to attend future cultural activities. Students are also subject to
the Code of Conduct while attending SSS sponsored activities.
Past cultural events and activities have included:
 The musicals “The Color Purple,” “Wicked,” & “Mama Mia”
