The first meeting of the 11th senate was called to order at 5 p.m. on Tuesday August 28th, 2012. There were 31 senators present. Senator Patel moved to approve the last meetings minutes. Passed. Officer Reports President Cory Dodds Thank you. Welcome back. I hope you had good summer. I want to update you on our summer activities. We had a successful move to cravens. I am confident on this change. Also, executive members attended KLA where we met with other SGA groups. We had a productive conversation about the 4.8% tuition increase $71 per credit hour fee for students enrolled in online courses. When voting on it I opposed. It passed anyway. During the summer months we also helped move students in. I am looking forward to see the success of this freshman class. At this time I would like to discuss the accountability tab. Attendance of senate meetings will now be visible to the public. Our budget will also be online. Also, we will put the executive meeting minutes online. I encourage to look at those. I believe it is a brave step for SGA. Bekka is our new office associate. She cannot be here tonight. Over the summer we had left over money. We initiated Safe Ride. If you use this service we welcome feedback. September 1st we will have a table at our first home football game. It starts at 6, and students will be let in at 5. We also appoint students to serve on university committees. If you want to sign up feel free. It is encouraged. That it where we can have most impact. I am very optimistic about this year in SGA. We need to use our oppurtunity to represent the students. We should devote ourselves to the students. Executive Vice President Keyana Boka Hi, everyone. I hope everyone had a great summer. As Cory mentioned, this summer we started spending money on promotional items. We bought new shirts for executive and senate. If you are representing SGA you can wear a professional sirt. Also, we had the Life Foundation meeting, and we started planning Dine. It will be the week before finals hopefully in the KY Room. Also, we passed out Hilltopper Heritige shirts to M.A.S.T.E.R. plan students. Administrative Vice President Cain Alvey Hey, guys. How was your summer? Since this is a new year, we have a new budget which is in your minutes. This is the money given by the university. We have less than last year. We have divided it where we think it will be better spent. Some money has already been spent. I am constanly going to update the budget. You can keep up with it online. Please, give me 24 hours to do update it. If you have questions, ask. I will make sure you have the budget in your minutes monthly. I want you to be informed so you can write bills. If you are interested in Organizational Aid, we take applications from campus organizations and decide if they get funding. It is a great way to reach out to campus and the world. In Organizational Aid I have made the application different and interviews more challenging since we have less money. Applications will go out this week. Speaker Christopher Costa Welcome back. I am sorry it is cramped. We will be here all year. I want to talk about parlimentary procedure. I know some people are new to senate and parlimenary procedure. Elections are in September. The biggest thing is "I move". Any time you speak you speak to the speaker. Always stand. It shows respect and ensures you are recognized. Read over this because pretty much eveything is used. Bills on the Hill chart where things start and how they end. It shows how bills pass or fail. Direct questions to committee chairs. They are there to help. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Also, the constitution dictates everything. Bylaws are subordinate to the constitution. If you have any questions the answers are probably here. No staff reports Committee Reports Academic Affairs-Hannah Garland Hey, guys. I hope you had a great summer. We do scholar development grants, study abroad, and study away.
