Resolution 2-11-F. Support for the Faculty of Western Kentucky University not having a
Term limit placed upon their representative on the Board of Regents.
PURPOSE: For the Student Government Association of Western Kentucky University to support the recommendation presented by the Faculty Welfare and Professional
Responsibilities Committee of the University Senate of Western Kentucky
University that there should not be term limits placed upon the faculty regent of the Board of Regents,
WHEREAS: It is in the best interest of the Student Government Association to not set precedent for the reduction of rights by giving away sovereignty in election processes,
WHEREAS: Not having term limits gives the faculty the power to vote a representative onto the Board of Regents for as long as they wish, or remove through the election cycle,
WHEREAS: It is the faculties right, under KRS 164, to select their representative and for that representative to be eligible for reelection as long as the faculty member is a member of the teaching staff at Western Kentucky University,
WHEREAS: No other Kentucky University, with published by-laws for their Board of Regents
THEREFORE: or Board of Trustees online, reference term limits,
Be it resolved that the Student Government Association of Western
Kentucky University supports the recommendation that the faculty not accept term limits for their representative on the Board of Regents of
Western Kentucky University.
