The agenda was approved. 2. March minutes were approved. 3. Pam submitted her votes on the travel and conference grants. Using the rubric for scoring applications, and considering the information given to all applicants that we would be judging the applications very carefully in light of the spending freeze, the committee voted to fund one of the four projects. One of the applications did not fit the instructions for travel and conference (it was a request that the college pay tuition for a for-credit course), and the other two applications insufficiently addressed the questions asked. Only the funded application even identified a single strategic priority and goal, even though the first question asked specifically that. INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS 1 HARTNELL COLLEGE VISION STATEMENT Hartnell College will be nationally recognized for the success of our students by developing leaders who will contribute to the social, cultural, and economic vitality of our region and the global community. HARTNELL COLLEGE MISSION STATEMENT Focusing on the needs of the Salinas Valley, Hartnell College provides educational opportunities for students to reach academic goals in an environment committed to student learning, achievement and success. 1. Terri, Shannon, and Andrea reported that the member of the accreditation visiting team who wanted to meet with members of the Professional Development Committee was very complimentary of the work we have done, and thanked us for going far beyond what they ever expected to see. 2. Megan gave a presentation from the 4C/SD state-wide conference on retooling professional development held last week in Ontario. She reported that we were definitely on the right track, and our progress, programs, and ideas put us comfortably on the continuum of where other community colleges are. A keynote speaker, LeBaron Woodyard, said the AB 2558 is not being funded yet, but things are in progress to update Title 5 and figure out how this will be fully implemented. She heard lots of ideas for how to offer professional development for administrative and classified employees, which is everyone's concern now, since everyone already has a head start in offering professional development for faculty. She learned that it is clear that a critical culture shift embracing professional development is possible through consistency and repetition in offering it. She also signed us for the state-wide clearinghouse, a kind of 2-part approach that is first a kind of collection of training programs and offerings that the members make available to all, and second, Grovo, which is a paid service that offers quick 1-2 minute video training modules on a variety of topics. She also shared four main ideas about approaches to professional development for faculty, classified, leaders, and campus-wide efforts.
