5th ANNUAL STUDENT SUCCESS CONFERENCE – FEEDBACK – 01/19/16
KEY NOTE SPEAKER: DR. JEAN TWENGE
1. Thank you.
2. The speaker was charismatic and knowledgeable. Presented a general synopsis of “Generation
ME” that was articulate and spot on.
3. I love when we got information, based on data, that it thought-promoting and immediately
useful. Excellent presentation!
4. Fabulous speaker. Thank you.
5. Great presentation. Very interesting topic.
6. Excellent!
7. This speaker was great! Her information was so helpful and the fact that it is research based
really validates what I’ve experienced in the classroom.
8. Very enjoyable presentation.
9. Very relevant to working with today’s generation. Nice to gain a better understanding of
“priorities” of the IGen.
10. Best keynote speaker yet. Very relevant to the challenges we have as instructors in 2015-2016.
11. Excellent
12. Very interesting! Great info! Inspired me to seek more info.
13. Enjoyed the presentation very much. Very relevant to my classroom instruction in COU-1.
Student engagement & overcoming entitlement.
14. A very well researched presentation. I don’t agree that our young people are increasingly
narcissistic, but I do agree that students of this generation do have certain issues related to
personal relationships.
15. Terrific – great topic.
16. She was very informative. Liked this presentation! Funny too!
17. Awesome!
18. Information provided was enlightening.
19. Would have liked to hear more about our specific demographics. I am not sure the data were
applicable to our population.
20. Great presentation! Interesting, info, engaging & relevant.
21. Excellent speaker.
22. Great job.
23. Very informative, useful and relevant. She did an excellent job.
24. Great talk.
25. Excellent speaker!
26. Excellent – relevant in today’s world.
27. More focus on our student demographics would have helped.
28. Great presentation.
29. Wonderful selection!!
30. Interesting data.
31. Units on y-axes would be helpful
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT: JOHN PEREZ
1. We need to be having these workshops on a much more regular basis. Everyone benefits when
faculty share best practices.
2. Always helpful! Will contact again.
3. Bravo!
4. I’m definitely going to try some of their tips for student engagement.
5. I would have liked more detail on the strategies presented but here was not enough time.
6. Great presentation. All faculty should hear this talk.
7. Johnny Perez, Ken Rand. New York City? Very informative & interactive.
8. A lot of good info! Excellent workshop; I’m looking forward to using the tools (tech) I learned
about.
9. Great! Bring Twenge back – same again.
10. Great choice of key-note speaker.
STUDENT IN CRISIS: CAROL KIMBROUGH

8.
Great dialog.
Best speaker ever
Didn’t stick to presentation agenda of going to smaller group. Good sharing of ideas though.
Student entitlement is running rampant and we need to engage students more in helping
themselves become more resourceful.
The presentation was well delivered. Spent too much time on questions.
Okay. The large group Q&A wasn’t as helpful. Wanted to hear more from the guest speaker.
I liked her presentation.
More time for strategies rather than “observations” would have been a better focus. Dr. Twenge
really gets the issue about engaging the current generation of students.
INTERACTIVE LESSONS USING GOOGLE APPS: DENISE CASTRO
1. Good review of Google apps. Wi-Fi is very slow in A-113.
2. The speaker outlined her assignments and online infrastructure at a level that was beyond what
I could comprehend. In the future IT/Tech demos should be subdivided by levels of IT
understanding which will allow for an enriched professional development.
3. Trying to figure out how I could apply this in my class. It was very insightful and I hope to be able
to use this.
4. I definitely want to build a Google doc for my PE course.
5. This was a good presentation, but would be hard to implement in my classes which are not so
easily adaptable for theses Google files.
6. Almost irrelevant considering other LMS platforms.
7. Not going to be using Google apps.
8. Instructor assumed a lot of previous familiarity with Google docs, etc.
9. I got lost because I had no experience with the tools. I thought there was going to be more
teaching on how to create. Computers were provided but I did not get to use it.
10. I teach in an old-school manner that does not incorporate any Google docs or Google apps.
11. Seems like it could have been more hands-on. Laptops were passed out, but then we didn’t do
anything on them, except for some individuals playing around on their own.
12. Seems useful, perhaps a workshop during the semester would help kick start.
13. Needed slower instruction since I am new to Google sheets, but final product is impressive.
14. Would like more interaction – laptops were drawn, but not used… maybe next time lead group
through an exercise using tech tool.
PROACTIVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR SOLUTIONS: AUGUSTINE NEVAREZ
1. Good.

5.
This was eye opening!
I was surprised to see how relevant this info is to our community students.
Need to continue to venture developing a better work ethic towards learning for life long being.
Very good!
The weakest of the guest speaker. Another large group Q&A. Very few of our students are
entitled in my experience.
6. Another good job!
7. Presentation needed more material and less questions for audience. I felt she started out well
but ran out of material.
8. Good ideas of what awareness to give students ahead of their expectations. Some good
strategies to develop accountability.
IT RESOURCES/ASTRA: LAURA LARK & BELEN GONZALES
1. Computers in library were extremely slow. I am glad we have follow-up opportunities.
2. WI-FI is slow in A-113.
3. The presenters did very well as they dealt with the majority of the chaos being unable to follow
along on their laptops due to poor WI-FI.
4. Great information on utilizing computers. My only issue was my proxy server failed on the
laptop computer.
STEPS TO SUCCESS: DR. MARK SANCHEZ
1.
2.
3.
4.
Probably not the best for me but well done!
Good to know more about the multiple measures for placement test.
Sanchez = very bright.
Very good presentation to understand the process.
TO TEST OR NOT TO TEST: JANET FLORES & JOHN PEREZ
1. Picked up some nice tricks! Thank you. More canvas.
2. I would have liked to have gotten more general principles about assessment, rather than specific
systems.
3. Learned new tricks! Good.
4. I liked the ideas – very applicable!!
5. Very helpful! Wish we had more time. Both presenters were great. I had good ideas.
6. I was thinking this was going to be different. Was not expecting to learn about tools.
7. Top-notch!
8. Good tips, both tech and non-tech, presented.
9. Great presentation of tools to use in classroom for assessment.
10. Very energetic and lots of great ideas for informal classroom assessment.
